One-and-done: John Deere Classic

Steve Stricker.

This week's installment could have ended at the first period and no one would have bickered. As a winner of the John Deere Classic from 2009-2011 and two more top 10s at TPC Deere Run to boot, there is no reason why any one-and-doner wouldn't burn him this week if he's still on your board. The only other obvious choice is defending champion Zach Johnson, who has a T2 (2009) and a T3 (2011) here as well.

Stricker and Johnson sit a respective 1-2 in all-time earnings at this tournament. Five others inside the top 20 are scheduled to compete -- Jonathan Byrd (fifth), John Senden (sixth), Troy Matteson (ninth), Sean O'Hair (12th) and Kyle Stanley (20th), but only Stanley should sit on short lists devoid of Stricker and ZJ given that the third-year PGA TOUR member has flashed some form in recent weeks.

If you're inclined to save any of these recommendations for a tournament with more prize money -- the JDC will distribute $4.6 million -- Brendon de Jonge, Jordan Spieth, Matt Jones and Morgan Hoffmann are smart options. All fulfill the usual gamut of reasons -- success at TPC Deere Run, current form and strategy.

As for me, it's been clear all year that I've been tabling Stricker for this week. Period.
