Stricker, Van Pelt team for CVS win

The team of Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt won the CVS Caremark Charity Classic that was completed Tuesday at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.

After combining for 12 under to lead by one stroke after Monday's first round, Stricker and Van Pelt again shot the lowest round of the day in Tuesday's second round, finishing at 13 under for a two-day total of 25 under.

That was four strokes better than the second-place team of Billy Andrade and Bill Haas, who finished at 21 under. Haas' father, Jay Haas, teamed with LPGA star Morgan Pressel to finish in third place at 19 under. Haas and Pressel were the defending champs, having become the first co-ed team to win the event.

The tournament, played the week after the nearby Travelers Championship outside Hartford, Conn., pulls together 20 golf pros to help raise money for local charities. Since 1999, the CVS Caremark Charity Classic has given more than $16 million to New England non-profits.

Andrade and Brad Faxon are the co-hosts of the event.
