AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Jim Furyk doesn't exactly have a spectacular record in the Masters.
In 16 trips here, Furyk has four top 10s -- though he's never really been in contention to win a Green Jacket. Just twice he's broken 70 in the opening round, which included a career-low here, 66, in 2009.
With an early tee time on Thursday, however, Furyk is taking advantage of soft, windless conditions at Augusta National.
Furyk made four birdies and one bogey through his first nine holes, making the turn in 33.
The 42-year-old got to as low as 4 under after birdies on Nos. 6, 7 and 8 before his lone bogey on the par-4 ninth.
Lynn, meanwhile, birdied the opening hole before adding four more on Nos. 8, 9, 11 and 12. His only bogey was on the par-4 10th.
Six others, meanwhile, are at 2 under, including Justin Rose, Tim Clark and Ryo Ishikawa.
