Jordan Spieth will play with Matt Kuchar and Rory McIlroy at the Valero Texas Open.
It's rare that Rory McIlroy isn't the youngest player in his group. This week, however, the 23-year-old Northern Irishman won't be. That honor goes to 19-year-old Jordan Spieth, the former University of Texas standout, who will play alongside McIlroy and Matt Kuchar in one of the notable groups this week at TPC San Antonio.
Here is a closer look at that group and a few others (click here for tee times):
Matt Kuchar-Rory McIlroy-Jordan Spieth: McIlroy added the Valero Texas Open to his schedule at the 11th hour in part to get more reps with the year's first major around the corner. Meanwhile, Kuchar comes into the week with a win and two other top 10s. Spieth has split his season between the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour but played well with a couple of top 10s on each, including a runner-up in Puerto Rico. Kuchar, McIlroy and Spieth will tee off at 8:50 a.m. ET on Thursday and 1:50 p.m. on Friday.
Ian Poulter-Charl Schwartzel-Jim Furyk: This is the first trip to San Antonio for Poulter and Schwartzel, while Furyk is making his first appearance there in nearly two decades. Poulter hasn't missed a cut anywhere in his last 33 starts, while Schwartzel hasn't finished worse than 16th in his last 11 stroke-play starts. They tee off at 1:50 p.m. ET Thursday and 8:50 a.m. Friday.
Ben Curtis-Brendan Steele-Justin Leonard: There's been a lot of success in this event between these three with Curtis and Steele having won the last two Valero Texas Opens and Leonard, the all-time money winner in the event, having won this tournament three times. They tee off at 9 a.m. ET Thursday and 2 p.m. Friday.
D.A. Points-John Merrick-Brian Gay: Points is coming off a victory in Houston, while Merrick and Gay each won earlier this season at Riviera and PGA West, respectively. They tee off 2 p.m. ET Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday.
