PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Looks like the morning wave gobbled up most of the really low scores at Riviera Country Club on Thursday.
Greg Chalmers and John Merrick have the best rounds going, and the two are tied at 3 under through 11 and 10 holes, respectively. Sergio Garcia, Charl Schwartzel and Ernie Els -- each of whom is making his 2013 PGA TOUR debut -- are among the big group at 2 under though nine holes each.
Meanwhile, Chris Stroud and Sean O'Hair withdrew after completing their first rounds. Stroud, who shot 76, cited a wrist injury as the reason for his early exit. O'Hair had an 83 and did not give a reason.
