The pairings are out for the Northern Trust Open, where Bill Haas is the defending champion. He'll have a couple of familiar playing partners during the first two rounds at Riviera: The two guys he beat in a playoff a year ago. Here's a look at a few of the notable groups.
Phil Mickelson-Keegan Bradley-Bill Haas: Needing birdie on the last hole of regulation to force a playoff last year, Mickelson obliged. Bradley followed suit. Then Haas stole the trophy from both of them, rolling in a 43-foot birdie in overtime for the win.
Bubba Watson-Lee Westwood-Fred Couples: Three times Watson has finished in the top 20 at Riviera, which includes a tie for 13th last year. Westwood is making his PGA TOUR season debut this week, while Couples has been the King of L.A., winning there twice and contending several other times.
Luke Donald-Adam Scott-Graeme McDowell: What do these three have in common? They're all making their TOUR season debut this week. Donald and Scott both have good track records at Riviera -- Scott won there in 2005, Donald finished second in 2010. McDowell is back for thre first time since 2009.
Dustin Johnson-Ernie Els-Webb Simpson: Johnson has thre top 10s in five starts at Riviera, including a tie for fourth a year ago. Els has won there before, while Simpson, who is making his fifth start of the year is still looking for his first top 10.
