ARDMORE, Pa. -- The par-4 15th hole at Merion Golf Club, which runs hard along Golf House Rd., and has out of bounds stakes lining the right side, is playing as the fourth-most difficult through the first two-plus rounds of the U.S. Open.
Sergio Garcia just added to its scoring average, hitting three tee shots out of bounds before finally keeping one in play.
By the time the Spaniard putted out on the 397-yard hole, where the fairway was pushed to the right to bring out of bounds more into play, he'd record a 10, dropping him from 6 over at the start of the day to 14 over at the time.
It wasn't the first time he had trouble on No. 15 this week -- he had an 8 there in the first round.
He's also not the only player to have struggled there. There have been 93 bogeys, 19 double bogeys and 11 "others" so far on No. 15, which has played nearly a half-stroke over par.
Garcia's highest single-hole score came in 2012 when he recorded a career-high 12 on the par-3 third hole at Trump Doral in the final round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.
