ARDMORE, Pa. -- Earlier this week, Rory McIlroy said he was "half-thinking" of visiting the steps where fictional character Rocky Balboa ran up and jumped up and down on at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
On the eve of Thursday's opening round, the world No. 2 and 2011 U.S. Open champ did just that.
"Can't come to Philadelphia and not see the 'Rocky' steps!!" McIlroy said via Twitter.
The museum is about 10 miles from Merion Golf Club, where McIlroy was scheduled to tee off at 1:14 p.m. ET before Thursday's weather delay interrupted the opening round.
