LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Tiger Woods needed a mere 42 inches to extend his lead to four strokes during the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open.
Woods made a 7-inch birdie putt at the second hole and another from 2 feet, 12 inches at No. 3 to move to 13 under. He had more work to do at the fourth, two-putting for par from 43 feet but he's still got a comfortable advantage as the sun breaks through the clouds at Torrey Pines.
Rookie Brad Fritsch, Erik Compton and Steve Marino, who is on the comeback trail after tearing the miniscus in his left knee, are tied for second at 9 under. They are playing together in the penultimate group and each is 1 under for the day.
