Brandt Snedeker nearly did it. He nearly carded a
59. Snedeker narrowly missed a 20-foot putt for the magic number on
the 18th hole on Saturday at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China. He
settled for a par and a third-round, 12-under 60 to move into
contention at 13 under for the tournament. Snedeker, the 2012
FedExCup champion, made 10 birdies and an eagle on his round. And
considering he's the No. 1 putter on the PGA TOUR, he seemed primed
to make the putt for a 59 -- something that has never been done on
the European Tour. After hitting it onto the green from a fairway
bunker, Snedeker couldn't convert, just missing on the low side of
the hole. Still, Snedeker's round of 60 is the lowest round in WGC
history.
