William McGirt had not been in this position before -- playing in
the final group, in serious contention to name a few -- but thanks
to his playing partners he felt quite comfortable in the third
round of the RBC Canadian Open on Saturday. "I think I handled it
pretty well," said McGirt, who fired a 4-under 66 for a three-day
total of 15 under, one shot back of leader Robert Garrigus. "It did
help playing with Robert and Scott (Piercy). We got out there and
just had fun. We were laughing and joking all day." McGirt is in
his second year on the PGA TOUR. He's had four top 25s this season
and only one top 10 -- which came last week at the True South
Classic. Maybe he's heating up at just the right time. In any case,
he's certainly looking forward to teeing it up in the final pairing
with the easy-going Garrigus on Sunday. "He kind of knows what to
say at the right time to me," McGirt said. "He just walked by
today, I was a little miffed at not driving it in the fairway. He
walks by and said something funny and I just busted out laughing,
kind of takes your mind off of it."
