Troy Matteson opened today’s second round with a three-shot
advantage, pushed it to five after opening with two birdies, and
still holds a four-shot lead after nine holes. Matteson, who carded
a 10-under 61 to take the lead Thursday, got his morning started
with birdie putts of 11 feet and 3 feet on Nos. 1 and 2 before
missing a 4-footer on the third hole to start a stretch of seven
consecutive pars. Currently 12 under, Matteson is four clear of
three-time defending champion Steve Stricker. After a bogey on No.
11, his second hole of the day, Stricker has racked up three
birdies to close his opening nine in 2-under 34. One behind
Stricker and on the course are Tommy Biershenk and Gary Christian.
Ricky Barnes, also at 7 under, will tee off this afternoon at 1:25
p.m. ET. There are currently 15 golfers in a group at 6 under, six
back of Matteson.
