For the last few years at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf, Jeff Sluman played with Craig Stadler in the better-ball team format. But when Brad Faxon turned 50 in August last year, Sluman knew he wanted to play with him in Savannah.
The partnership is proving a very good one.
Faxon and Sluman started the third round one shot out of the lead but are now tied for the lead at 22 under, alongside Joey Sindelar and John Cook, and Andy Bean and Chien Soon Lu. Faxon and Sluman birdied their first four holes at Savannah Harbor Golf Resort.
“You like to play with somebody that you’ve played with … we know each other so well, so I mean it just seems a natural fit,” Sluman said after Friday’s opening round.
The low round of the day so far belongs to Scott Simpson and Loren Roberts, 7 under through 10 holes and 20 under for the tournament. Defending champions David Eger and Mark McNulty are 6 under through 12, also at 20 under overall.
