With Johnson Wagner missing the cut at Augusta National, the top
two players with hopes of ending the week atop the FedExCup ranks
are the same two who went head-to-head in the finale of the World
Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. Mahan was the
victor at Dove Mountain and, because of the victory over McIlroy in
the Match Play final, is 299 points ahead of the Northern Irishman.
A 3-under second round for McIlroy moved him into a tie for third
at Augusta. He's projected to cut nearly 100 points off Mahan's
lead, but will need to continue to work up the ranks if he hopes to
unseat Mahan, who is currently tied for 24th, and return to the top
of the FedExCup ranks. Bubba Watson, also tied for third at
Augusta, has an opportunity to take over the top spot in the
FedExCup standings with a win this week. Watson found himself atop
the standings for five weeks during a 2011 campaign in which he
finished 26th in the FedExCup Playoffs. Other players with chances
to move atop the standings moving in the right direction Friday
were Phil Mickelson (T11) and Justin Rose (T24) Here’s a
quick look at how Mahan and his pursuers are stacking up at the
Masters. Listed below are the current FedExCup standing of each
player, the finish they will need this week to have a chance at
becoming No. 1, and where they stand at Augusta National.
