Saturday was moving day at Augusta National and two players with an
opportunity to finish the week atop the FedExCup standings made
serious moves up the ranks. Current leader Hunter Mahan posted a
4-under 68 Saturday to move from T24 to T6 on the leaderboard. At
this moment, he projects to maintain his lead in the FedExCup race
by 94 points over Phil Mickelson. Mickelson made the most of moving
day, shooting a 6-under 30 on the back nine at Augusta to pull
within one shot of the lead currently held by Peter Hanson. Should
Mickelson go on to win the green jacket, Mahan would have to finish
alone in second place to prevent Lefty from unseating him atop the
FedExCup standings. Bubba Watson, who is tied for third after 54
holes at Augusta, still has an outside chance to bump Mahan from
the top spot in the FedExCup standings. He would need a win at
Augusta and a colossal collapse from the current FedExCup leader to
make his way to the top of the standings. Moving in the wrong
direction on Saturday were Rory McIlroy (5-over 77). The Northern
Irishman opened the day tied for third and in great position to
regain his FedExCup lead, but he fell all the way into a 27th-place
tie with his rough Saturday that featured a trio of 6's on his
scorecard. Here’s a quick look at how Mahan and his pursuers
are stacking up at the Masters. Listed below are the current
FedExCup standing of each player, the finish they will need this
week to have a chance at becoming No. 1, and where they stand at
Augusta National.
