PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- On a day that started out pristine and ended in a hail of drizzle and chilly temperatures, Charlie Wi shot a 3-under 69 on Pebble Beach to get to 12 under and into the leading heading into the weekend at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
Tiger Woods, meanwhile, was unable to take advantage of the easiest course on the property, Monterey Peninsula Country Club, with just a 2-under 68. That leaves him at 6 under through two rounds.
Unlike the opening round, when Woods needed just 29 putts, he took 33 of them on Friday.
Wi had no such difficulty. He took 29 putts, though he had a wild round with five birdies, an eagle from the fairway and four bogeys.
Three shots behind Wi is Dustin Johnson, a winner here in 2009 and 2010. He shot an even-par 72 on Spyglass Hill Friday.
