LA QUINTA, Calif. – Mark Wilson came back Sunday morning and parred his final three holes but still maintained a three-stroke lead after three rounds of the Humana Challenge.
Zach Johnson birdied the 14th hole, his first when he returned to the Nicklaus Course to finish the third round, to shoot 65 and is among three players tied at 18 under. Also in that group is second-round co-leader Ben Crane, who had six holes remaining and made four pars, one birdie and a bogey.
Robert Garrigus, who opened with a 29 on the back nine at the Nicklaus Course on Saturday, is also at 18 under. He was 9 under through 13 holes when he returned Sunday morning and promptly birdied the fifth and seventh to conjure up thoughts of the magical 59.
Garrigus’ bid essentially ended, though, when he was unable to at least birdie par-5 eighth. His 61 was still a career-low, though, and matched Ryan Moore for the low round of the tournament.
With 21 players remaining on the course, the cut line is looking to be 6 under.
