LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Kyle Stanley wasn't very happy with that missed cut at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation last week.
So he went to the Titleist Test Center in Oceanside, Calif., on Monday where he worked to square up a stance that had gotten too open. Those changes, though, necessitated some tweaks to his equipment because Stanley had dipped under 2000 rpm in backspin.
So the Titleist folks changed his 910D3 driver from 7.5 degrees
to 8.5 degrees while keeping him in the A-1
setting. The changes have paid major dividends, too, as Stanley owns a five-stroke lead at 18 under with three holes remaining in the third round.
Stanley currently ranks second in driving distance, first in greens in regulation and tied for fourth in putts per round. He’s played the par 5s in 10 under and leads the field in birdies, too. His rpm has increased to 2400, as well.
