Oliver Wilson is still looking for his first victory on either side of the Atlantic Ocean. He’s making a strong bid at the Bridgestone Invitational, though.
Wilson, who played collegiately at Augusta State, just made the turn in 31. He’s 6 under for the tournament now – one stroke behind Matt Kuchar, Justin Leonard and Bubba Watson. Wilson tied for 11th at Firestone a year ago.
The Londoner got off to a fast start on Saturday, making birdie on his first three holes and adding another at the ninth. Wilson made an 11-footer for birdie at No. 1, two-putted from 60 feet at the par-5 second and made 19-footers at Nos. 3 and 9.
Wilson remains the only player to compete in the Ryder Cup without a victory. Jeff Overton, who is currently ranks fourth in the U.S. standings has yet to pick up his breakthrough victory. – Helen Ross
