On a day when John Daly channeled his inner Ian Poulter and
essentially wore the Stars & Stripes as his trousers, Rickie
Fowler made his customary Sunday fashion statement. And after he
finished, he was asked to describe his outfit. “Orange from
head to toe – shoes, pants, belt, shirt, hat, bracelet,
necklace,” Fowler said stating the obvious. “It’s
my school colors.” The Oklahoma State product, who was
playing in his first British Open, made a statement on the course
Sunday, too, with a bogey-free 67 that saw him play his last six
holes in 4 under. It was his second 67 of the tournament and put
him at 4 under for 72 holes. “I had a bit of a slow start,
but played great at the end,” Fowler said. “It’s
awesome to put up a score like that on Sunday. … The feeling
I had at 17 when I made the putt (for birdie) from off the green
was very special." “Links golf is my favorite. I love playing
over here at the Home of Golf, playing the game as its meant to be
played. So I hope I can keep coming back for many years.”
