The second time around was different for 16-year-old Jordan Spieth -- literally and metaphorically. Coming off a tie for 16th at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, Spieth opened his week in Memphis with a 3-over, five strokes higher than the 68 started with in Dallas.
Thursday, Spieth found conditions much more difficult away from his home course. He only hit five fairways and nine greens in regulation on his way to taking 29 putts. It’s all part of the learning experience, though, and that’s what Spieth says he’s focused on. Now it will just be a matter of whether or not he’ll continue that experience this weekend. -- Brian Wacker
