Scott Brown won't have to worry about finding a place to play on the PGA TOUR for a while.

Brown birdied the 72nd hole on Sunday to win the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com for his first PGA TOUR victory.

Brown, who earns a two-year exemption on the PGA TOUR and 300 FedExCup points with his win, carded a 2-under 70 to finish at 20-under 268 for a one-shot win over Fabian Gomez (71) and 19-year-old Jordan Spieth (67) at Trump International in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Former U.S. Amateur champion Peter Uihlein tied for sixth, giving him a spot in the Tampa Bay Championship presented by EverBank next week.

First ace for Spieth, Ishikawa

By PGATOUR.COM staff

Ryo Ishikawa and Jordan Spieth each recorded their first hole-in-one on the PGA TOUR on Saturday, both at the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com.

Ishikawa used a 6-iron to ace the 236-yard eighth hole in the third round. He also carded an eagle 3 on the 15th hole at Trump International in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, and had a 6-under 66 in Round 3. He's currently at 12 under for the tournament and in the top 10. Ishikawa, who finished second here last season, has struggled so far in 2013, missing four of five cuts.

Spieth used a 4-iron to ace the 192-yard 11th hole. He's currently 3 under through 12 holes (12 under for the tournament). Spieth had a T22 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and also owns a pair of top 10s on the Web.com Tour this season.

Brown holes fairway shot, 1 back

Just another typical round of golf. That would sum up Scott Brown's second round of the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com on Friday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

At least until the fun began.

Brown was going along just fine, two birdies on par 5s and four pars, until he holed a 170-yard shot with a 7-iron from the fairway on the seventh hole for an eagle, then rolled in a 50-footer for birdie on No. 8, hit his approach to an inch on the ninth and then birdied the 10th.

Not too shabby.

"So just a solid day," said Brown, who carded a 9-under 63 for a two-day total of 13 under, one shot back of leader Andres Romero. "I hit it well, putted it well, got it down when I needed to to keep my momentum going."

Brown, playing with conditional status on the PGA TOUR this season, is off to a hot start in 2013. He had a T30 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and finished third at the Web.com Tour's Panama Claro Championship and also T7 at the Colombia Championship.

Brown could get into the Tampa Bay Championship presented by EverBank next week with a top 10 in Puerto Rico. And he has some good vibes here after finishing T5 last season, tied for the best PGA TOUR finish of his career.

"It fits my eye really well," Brown said. "I finished fifth here last year. I played good. It's just, I think Bermuda is one thing, I grew up in the Southeast, Augusta, Georgia, so I guess Bermudagrass is kind of home to me."

Uihlein thriving in Puerto Rico

By PGATOUR.COM staff

In the last six weeks, Peter Uihlein has played on four different professional golf tours in four different countries. After playing in this week's Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com on the PGA TOUR, Uihlein is scheduled to fly roughly 9,000 miles to an European Tour event in India next week.

"That'll be a short trek," he joked.

But he may not need to make it.

Uihlein, a past U.S. Amateur champion, could work his way into next week's Tampa Bay Championship presented by EverBank if he finishes in the top 10 in Puerto Rico. So far, so good, as he's 12 under through the first two rounds in Puerto Rico, a total that left him as the clubhouse leader when he finished midway through Friday's second round at Trump International.

"It's one of my favorite golf courses. I love Innisbrook," Uihlein said about the Tampa course, which he played in 2011 on a sponsor's exemption. "But as of right now, I'm scheduled to go to India, so we'll see."

His play in Puerto Rico is a continuation of how Uihlein has performed this season. In the previous five weeks, he's played five events, with four top-20 finishes, including a tie for fourth at last week's Tshwane Open in South Africa on the European Tour.

On Friday, he shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 to follow up his opening 67.

"I felt like I've been playing well for a little while," Uihlein said. "And you know, it's the sixth week for me and I feel like every week's been good. It's just a matter of my scoring clubs, taking advantage of those."

The 23-year-old Uihlein also knows he's still in the learning stage of his professional career. Finding himself in contention will only accelerate the learning curve. At the Joburg Open in February, he was in the top 10 in the first three rounds before finishing tied for 19th. Last week, he remained in contention in the final round.

"Having the lead or being around the lead again is great," Uihlein said. "It's the way you're going to get more comfortable at it. The only way you're going to get more comfortable at it is to keep doing it. So hope I can keep playing well, and I'm excited."

Barber in contention

By PGATOUR.COM staff

Blayne Barber is making the most of an opportunity.

Barber carded a 6-under 66 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com and is one shot back of co-leaders Andres Romero and Cameron Percy.

Barber made headlines a few months ago after he disqualified himself from the first stage of q-school. Barber determined that he incorrectly penalized himself one shot instead of two.

Playing on a sponsor's exemption this week, Barber made eight birdies and two bogeys in Round 1 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. He Monday qualified for the Northern Trust Open and finished T42.

"I played really well, gave myself a lot of opportunities on the front and was able to make some putts and turn at 5 under and then kept it going on the back, played really well," Barber said.

New putter kind to Percy

By Bill Cooney, PGATOUR.COM

Perhaps Cameron Percy will give his son an assist for his impressive start at the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com.

Percy needed just 23 putts -- 10 on the back nine -- during his nine-birdie, 7-under 65 that gave him a share of the first-round lead with Andres Romero on Thursday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. American Blayne Barber was one shot back at 66.

Because his son had his putter last week, Percy didn't have a putter until late Wednesday afternoon. After testing a few Ping putters on the practice green, he tossed one in his bag. So far it's worked quite well.

"Well, they were all pretty short except for on 12," Percy said. "I holed about a 25-footer on 12, just a little left-to-righter. That was a nice one. The rest of them were all 5 and 6 feet sort of thing."

Percy also hit 11 of 14 fairways on the day, making birdies on four of his last seven holes.

Percy, who played the Web.com Tour last season, has made three of five cuts on the PGA TOUR in 2013. But his best finish was a T59 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

"Just drove the ball really nicely," said Percy, whose best finish in two previous starts here was a T28 in 2011. "I've been trying to not hit the ball too hard, so I just tried and hit three-quarters drivers and just kept the ball in play and I did that today and it was quite nice."
