Wrapping up Round 2

Jeff Overton broke the course record with a 9-under 62 Friday and joins Fredrik Jacobson atop the leaderboard at the midway point of the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic. Overton, who didn’t learn he was in the field until Sunday night, arrived in Malaysia early Wednesday morning but didn’t have his clubs at his disposal until Wednesday night. A new set of Cleveland irons helped him to open with three consecutive birdies in a round that also featured an eagle on the drivable par-4 15th en route to a share of the 36-hole lead. “I picked up a lot of feel,” Overton said. “I put them in play three or four weeks ago, about when I finished sixth at the McGladrey (Classic). I’m hitting them so good and have so much more confidence right now.” Jacobson started his Friday with a bogey but had five birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine to catch Overton at 13 under. “I feel like I’ve had a lot of short opportunities,” Jacobson said. “I’ve let some of them go and then I’ve made some long ones. It’s been a little bit of a tradeoff so far in the week. Maybe the ones I’ve thought I should knock in, I’ve had a hard time. But I made some other ones, so it’s been good.” Chasing the co-leaders is Bo Van Pelt, who is one shot off the pace at 12 under. Mark Wilson, Stewart Cink, Jimmy Walker and Jhonattan Vegas are four back at 9 under. Robert Allenby, who tied the old course record with a 63 in Round 1, was 1 over Friday and is tied for 9th, six back. CLICK HERE TO READ THE REST OF THE SECOND-ROUND WRAP-UP
