Bradley leads after 7-under 65

Keegan Bradley, who burst onto the global scene with his victory at the PGA Championship in August, has taken his game halfway around the world to the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China. The PGA TOUR rookie and two-time TOUR winner opened with a bogey-free, 7-under 65 at Sheshan International Golf Club that currently has him two shots clear of Alexander Noren and CIMB Asia Pacific Classic champion Bo Van Pelt. Bradley played the four par 5s at Sheshan International Golf Club flawlessly, posting three birdies and an eagle on No. 18, his ninth hole of the round. There were two 65s posted in last year’s event. The lone opening-round 65 was carded by Francesco Molinari, who went on to claim the title.

In the year of the long putters, here’s one last success story – one that literally changed a career.

Mark Anderson, a second-year Nationwide Tour player, earned his 2012 PGA TOUR card last weekend at the Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island. He finished 22nd on the money list, with nearly half of his $188,550 earned in the final three events.

Just at the time he put a Titleist Kombi belly putter in the bag.

“It’s changed my life, basically,” Anderson explained in a video on the Titleist Tour blog.

Anderson finished second at the Miccosukee Championship, T7 at the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters and T29 at the season finale.

“I put it in one week, felt a little awkward with it, but I putted great. I’m still in kind of the finicky, playing with it mode, trying to figure it out. But the putter’s great.”

Sounds like it will be going to the TOUR along with Anderson.

Van Pelt wins in Malaysia

Bo Van Pelt saved his best for last at the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic. The Richmond, Ind. native out-dueled fellow Hoosier Jeff Overton in the final pairing for a six-shot victory Sunday. Van Pelt’s 64 was his second 7-under round of the week, but his first bogey-free mark. The 36-year-old played his last 34 holes at The MINES Resort in 13 under, reaching a tournament-record 23-under count for the week. Overton, the 2005 Big 10 champion while playing at the University of Indiana, had three bogeys in a 2-under 69 that left him six shots behind Van Pelt.

Mid-round update: Van Pelt still ahead

Bo Van Pelt, the 54-hole leader, has been steady thus far in the final round of the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic. He carded two birdies and seven pars on the front nine Sunday. At 18 under, he leads fellow-Hoosier Jeff Overton by two shots. There are birdies out there at The MINES Resort as three players have already carded 6-under 65s. Cameron Tringale could be the next to reach 6 under. He has eight birdies through 14 holes and is 5 under for his round. That makes him 13 under for the week, tied for third with Camilo Villegas and Ryan Palmer.

Van Pelt leads after 54 holes

It's going to be a very Hoosier final pairing Sunday in Malaysia. Bo Van Pelt birdied holes 15, 16 and 17 Saturday at The MINES Resort to take a one-shot lead over another Indiana native, Jeff Overton, after 54 holes at the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic. Van Pelt’s 4-under 67 was his highest score of the week but was enough to leapfrog Overton (69) and leave him 18 holes away from his first victory since 2009. After bogeying his first two holes Saturday, Van Pelt got back to even before the turn. He added a birdie on No. 12 before his trio of late birdies put him ahead by two shots. Overton got his first closing birdie of the week to narrow the deficit to one shot at day’s end. "I’ve been in this position before and I’ve been playing this game a long time, and I just didn’t make that big a deal about (the early bogeys)," Van Pelt said. "I knew there was a lot of golf left. I made two good swings on 3 and made an easy birdie there and just kind of righted the ship." Mark Wilson and 36-hole co-leader Fredrik Jacobson are at 13 under, three behind Van Pelt. Wrapping up Round 2

Jeff Overton broke the course record with a 9-under 62 Friday and joins Fredrik Jacobson atop the leaderboard at the midway point of the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic. Overton, who didn’t learn he was in the field until Sunday night, arrived in Malaysia early Wednesday morning but didn’t have his clubs at his disposal until Wednesday night. A new set of Cleveland irons helped him to open with three consecutive birdies in a round that also featured an eagle on the drivable par-4 15th en route to a share of the 36-hole lead. “I picked up a lot of feel,” Overton said. “I put them in play three or four weeks ago, about when I finished sixth at the McGladrey (Classic). I’m hitting them so good and have so much more confidence right now.” Jacobson started his Friday with a bogey but had five birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine to catch Overton at 13 under. “I feel like I’ve had a lot of short opportunities,” Jacobson said. “I’ve let some of them go and then I’ve made some long ones. It’s been a little bit of a tradeoff so far in the week. Maybe the ones I’ve thought I should knock in, I’ve had a hard time. But I made some other ones, so it’s been good.” Chasing the co-leaders is Bo Van Pelt, who is one shot off the pace at 12 under. Mark Wilson, Stewart Cink, Jimmy Walker and Jhonattan Vegas are four back at 9 under. Robert Allenby, who tied the old course record with a 63 in Round 1, was 1 over Friday and is tied for 9th, six back. CLICK HERE TO READ THE REST OF THE SECOND-ROUND WRAP-UP
