Piercy, McCarron could be big winners

Depending on how Sunday unfolds, Scott Piercy and Scott McCarron could be the big gainers in the FedExCup standings.

A win would boost Piercy 98 spots to 42nd while McCarron would gain 99 to 43rd. Both started the week on the outside looking in at Nos. 140 and 142, respectively. – Helen Ross

McCarron makes move

Scott McCarron’s making another appearance on the leaderboard at the Wyndham Championship. He’s currently 5 under through 16 holes and 12 under for the tournament.

McCarron finished second at Sedgefield in 2008, the first time the tournament returned to the Donald Ross creation. He tied for 17th last year.

McCarron’s making a strong move in the projected FedExCup standings, too. He started the week at No. 142 and has moved up 15 spots where he’s flirting with a spot in next week’s opener of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.
