Goydos has surgery on left wrist

PGA TOUR veteran Paul Goydos underwent surgery to remove a bone spur in his left wrist on Tuesday.

Goydos tweeted Wednesday that the "Surgery went well. The Doctor didn't find any problems but the Bone spur." He later tweeted that it will be 6-8 weeks "at best" before he will touch a club.

"Will no more when I go back to the DR next week," Goydos tweeted.

The 47-year-old, who is a two-time PGA TOUR champ, also thanked his Twitter followers for their good wishes. "To all of you out there in twitter world, thanks for the kind words and support. I don't have the most followers, but I think I have the best" @PaulGoydosPGA

At least Goydos will have some entertainment during his layoff. His alma mater, Long Beach State, takes on New Mexico at 4:10 p.m. ET on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament.

Final groups reach the 'Vegas Strip'

If anyone is hoping to make a move at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, now is the time. The final groups have reached what PGA TOUR Network’s Bob Stevens is calling “the Las Vegas strip.” Holes 13 through 16 at TPC Summerlin are four of the six easiest holes on the course, playing an average of 1.483 strokes under par for the week. That’s a substantial number considering the overall average score for the first three rounds was fractions of a stroke better than 2-under par. Here’s a look at how the top players on the leaderboard have fared this week on the Strip: Kevin Na: 7 under Tim Herron: 4 under Nick Watney: 8 under Carl Pettersson: 6 under Kris Blanks: 9 under Paul Goydos: 7 under Jhonattan Vegas: 6 under

Update: Na up two at the turn

The final group has made the turn at TPC Summerlin and, at 21 under, Kevin Na has a two-shot lead over Nick Watney. Tim Herron and Paul Goydos are three back with five others at 17 under. Watney briefly tied Na at 19 under with a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-4 7th hole but Na answered with a birdie from inside 4 feet to move back ahead. The 28-year old Na, searching for his first PGA TOUR victory in his 132nd career start, added a birdie on the par-5 9th to reach his current number and head to the back nine in the driver’s seat.

Wrapping up Round 3

Nick Watney and Kevin Na share the 54-hole lead at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The duo, tied at 17 under, will be joined by Robert Garrigus (-16) in the final grouping Sunday at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. local time). Watney, a Vegas-area resident, birdied five of his last six holes Saturday as he made a late surge to the top of the leaderboard. Na did most of his damage on the more difficult front nine, managing just one birdie on the back nine as he shot a 5-under 66. Joining Garrigus one shot off the pace will be Kris Blanks. Two back are Tommy Gainey, Paul Goydos and Tim Herron. The six players tied with, or within two shots of Watney entering the final round, have a combined total of six PGA TOUR victories -- four belonging to Herron and two for Goydos. Watney has four, including two this year, as he rebounds from missed opportunities in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. The Regular Season points leader posted just one top-10 finish in the four Playoffs events, but has wasted no time coming back into form.

Update: Three tied for the lead

With a birdie on the par-4 18th, Robert Garrigus tied Kevin Na and Nick Watney for the lead at 16 under during Round 3 of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Garrigus, the second player to shoot a 63 on moving day, is looking for his second career victory, and second in the Fall Series. Also reaching the clubhouse in good position was Tommy Gainey. “Two Gloves” shot a 64 Saturday, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 16th, and is currently tied for third at 15 under. Na, currently playing the par-3 14th, has a drivable par 4 and a generous par 5 ahead of him. Watney, who just birdied the par-3 17th, is headed to the 18th teebox with a share of the lead. Paul Goydos joins Gainey on shot behind the three leaders. He is about to tee off on the par-3 17th.

Update: Imada 4 under at the turn

Ryuji Imada rolled in four consecutive birdies on holes 13 through 16 Thursday and made the turn at 4 under -- the best score of anyone in the afternoon wave. Nathan Green still holds the clubhouse lead after a 7-under 64. Imada needed just 11 putts on his opening nine and now sets his sights on the front nine at TPC Summerlin. A pair of 2011 PGA TOUR winners -- Michael Bradley (Puerto Rico Open) and Jhonattan Vegas (Bob Hope Classic) -- also are at the 4 under mark, each throughseven holes. Vegas started his day on No. 1 with the Featured Group while Bradley teed off on the back nine. Tommy Gainey, Paul Goydos and Charlie Wi are among the players on the course at 3 under.
