SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Kyle Stanley challenged himself at the driveable par-4 17th hole, hitting his tee shot short and well right of the green.
The ball settled under a cactus, but Stanley chipped to 22 feet. When he hit his second shot, Stanley was leading by two strokes at 15 under thanks to Spencer Levin’s double bogey at the par-5 15th..
Ben Crane, who was tied for second with Levin, missed the green to the right by 31 feet, He chipped to 3 feet and made the putt for birdie to move to 14 under and one clear of Levin.
Stanley just missed the birdie putt but tapped in for par that left him one stroke ahead of Crane.
Ben Crane's charge began on the third hole with this eagle at TPC Scottsdale.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- If Spencer Levin thought Sunday would be an extended victory march, Ben Crane is showing him otherwise.
Crane, who delighted the crowd at No. 16 in the third round
when he donned his trademark helmet and rapped with his buddy Bubba
Watson, has put his considerable golf skills on display on
Sunday.
Crane, who started the day at 9 under and trailing by eight, has just narrowed the gap to four. He's played his first four holes in 4 under with birdie putts of 12 and 8 feet and a 33-footer for eagle at the second hole.
Crane is no stranger to coming from behind to win on Sunday. He made up five strokes back in the final round to claim his last victory at the 2011 McGladrey Classic.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ben Crane saw something pretty unusual happen on Thursday evening after darkness suspended play at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
He was playing with Davis Love III and Kenny Perry, and the
threesome had made it through 17 holes when the horn sounded. Turns
out, Perry's son, Justin, who caddies for him, had something
special planned on the 18th.
The message on the scoreboard said it all: "Brittany, Will you marry me? Justin" And for the record, she said yes.
"He went down on one knee and he did it all right," Crane said. "He wasn't too nervous and he got it done. .. She was super surprised."
Crane said the players and their caddies knew what Justin was going to do. After the one-hour frost delay on Thursday morning pushed tee times back, though, they were thinking a change in plans might be in order.
"We were talking all day, hey, we might finish on 16," Crane said. "See if you can get it out on the leaderboard at 16 but they couldn't do it. They just put it up at 18. But it worked out perfect. It was pretty cool."
Crane will get a later tee time on Saturday after playing his way to 6 under for the tournament. He was among the top 10 on the leaderboard when he finished off his 67 on Friday, and while he has eight strokes to make up on Spencer Levin, there are still two days left.
Crane jump-started his round on Friday when he drained a 69-footer for eagle at the 15th hole, which was his 15th of the day. He closed with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18, then relied on a solid putter on the front nine to preserve the round of 4 under.
"On my front nine I made a lot of really key putts to keep my momentum going, like 12-footer, big left-to-right breaker on my 17th hole," Crane said. "I was making those and those are the putts that keep your round going or break your round. I was able to make them today, which was fun."
Ben Crane hits his approach to 17 feet on the par-4 ninth hole and makes the birdie putt.
