PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Miguel Angel Carballo was on his way to get a massage Thursday morning at PGA National when he saw Ian Poulter checking out from PGA National. That’s when the light bulb went off and Carballo, an alternate, realized he would be in the tournament and paired with Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood for the first two rounds.
“The first shot and the first two holes I was very nervous,” Carballo said. “Obviously this was the first time playing with Tiger. After that I was relaxed, though.”
Carballo looked even more relaxed Friday morning when he got to the tee box alongside Woods and Lee Westwood.
Woods, who began the day at 1 over, parred his first three holes before making a birdie on the par-4 13th, where he stuck his approach shot to just over a foot from the hole.
Aside from that shot, Woods hasn’t had much in the way of birdie looks with only one approach inside 30 feet. That came on the par-4 12th, where he slid his 15-footer for birdie just past the hole.
Carballo, on the other hand, got off to a bumpy start with a double bogey on his first hole. That dropped him to 11 over and into last place at the moment. Westwood, meanwhile, is even par after pars on each of his first four holes.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Ian Poulter has withdrawn from The Honda Classic due to illness.
“Sorry guys never been so disappointed in pulling out of a tournament,” Poulter tweeted Thursday morning before leaving the property. “Never felt so ruff, Hope 1st reserve plays well in a great group today.”
Poulter’s illness seemed to begin Wednesday night. He tweeted, “Heading straight to bed, 101.2 temperature, freezing then sweating. I hope I can sweat it out overnight or it could be home for me.” He even took a picture of the thermometer.
The Englishman was scheduled to tee off at 12:30 p.m. ET in the Featured Group with Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood. Poulter will be replaced by alternate Miguel Angel Carballo. Alternate Jonas Blixt would have replaced Poulter, but he had a sinus infection.
Carballo, who is from Bahia Blanca, Argentina, a rookie on the PGA TOUR after graduating from the Nationwide Tour, has made five starts this season with a tie for 29th his best finish.
Earlier, Alex Cejka withdrew with an elbow injury and was replaced in the field by Richard H. Lee.
