In the opening round of the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic, Jason Bohn hits his 101-yard approach shot on the par-4 15th hole to a foot then taps in for birdie.

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Jason Bohn withdrew due to a back injury prior to Friday’s second round of The Barclays, eliminating his chances of advancing in the FedExCup Playoffs.

Bohn entered the Playoffs as the last man in points at 125th and would’ve needed to make the cut this week to give himself any shot at making next week’s 100-player field at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Bohn shot a 7-over 78 in Thursday’s opening round, which included a double bogey at the par-4 fifth and six other bogeys. It would have been difficult for him to make the cut, which is currently projected at even par.

He was scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m. ET with Heath Slocum (124th in points) and Boo Weekley (123rd).

Yep, even Els, one of the best ball-strikers in the world, decided he needed more help in the form of a hybrid. But not the normal hybrid. Roger Cleveland, Callaway's top club designer, unleashed a new utility iron -- designed after the driving irons that have been around for years -- but with a few twists. The new iron has adjustable weights in the sole, and perhaps just as important, can be bent like other forged irons. Els placed the Callaway X Utility Prototype (18°, 21°, 24°) irons his bag a few weeks ago, but it wasn't until Royal Lytham that he had Cleveland adjust the lie angle. He had them bent a half-degree flat, and Els went on to have one of the best ball-striking weeks of his career. The new club has quickly made its way into the bags of several others including Graeme McDowell, who just added the 18-degree version, replacing a 2-iron. “I wanted to enhance that design into a three-loft concept with a new club design that was shallower, had a deeper CG, and that created a higher launch angle, which is difficult to achieve in longer irons," Cleveland said. Now, the question for the consumers: Will Callaway's design reach pro shops? For the immediate future, the answer is no, but Els' big win might coax Callaway to have it available in the future. TITLEISTS' 913 DRIVER SPREADING: Adam Scott and True South Classic winner Scott Stallings are still playing the older 910D3 driver, but more and more players are switching to the new 913D prototype. Jason Bohn (913D3) had it in his bag for the True South Classic, as did rookie Bud Cauley (913D2). Both finished in the top five, and Cauley, all 150 pounds of him, averaged 284 yards a pop. That was good for 11th in the field. PING ANSER READY: Ping's new adjustable driver and fairway woods are ready to hit the pro shops. The Anser driver is available in 8.5º, 9.5º, 10.5º and 12º lofts. Scott Stallings is now a two-time PGA TOUR winner shooting a Sunday afternoon 68 to close out a two-shot victory at the True South Classic. Stallings, who slept on a four-shot advantage last night and had a one-shot advantage after 54 holes, never relinquished his lead in Round 4. After making his first bogey since Round 1 on the 14th hole, allowing Jason Bohn to close within one shot, Stallings birdied holes 16 and 17 before parring the 18th to secure his victory. Stallings' victory and its accompanying 250 FedExCup points may be enough to put the 27-year-old into the FedExCup Playoffs for the second consecutive year. He projects to move from No. 163 in the standings to well inside the top 125. Bohn carded a 5-under 67 for the fourth runner-up finish of his career. Billy Horschel check in at 20 under for a third-place finish (the best of his career) while Bud Cauley finished another shot back in fourth.

They just may get 72 holes in at this year's True South Classic. Through three days and more than 10 hours of weather delays, about a quarter of the field (18 of 75 players) have completed their third rounds at Annandale Golf Club. Round 3 action will resume Sunday morning at 7 a.m. (8 a.m. ET). The final round is projected to get under way at approximately 9:45 a.m. (10:45 a.m. ET) on Sunday. When play resumes, Scott Stallings will be the man everyone is trying to catch. The 27-year-old second-year TOUR pro made five birdies and an eagle in a six hole stretch to reach 18 under and take a four-shot lead. He will open play Saturday on the teebox at the par-5 11th hole. In the group four back is Heath Slocum with overnight co-leaders Billy Horschel and Jason Bohn. Slocum is 6 under through 13 holes in his third round while Horschel and Bohn are each 1 under after the front nine. William McGirt currently leads in the clubhouse after a third-round 64 pushed his total to 13 under. One behind him, and also sleeping in on Sunday, will be Woody Austin, Tommy Gainey and Patrick Reed, who each carded third-round 66s.

The final grouping for the third round of the True South Classic is now on the course. Co-leaders Jason Bohn and Billy Horschel are joined by Matt Bettencourt in the afternoon's final trio. No one has threatened the 13 under mark that led after 36 holes but three players are off to hot starts at Annandale. Tommy Gainey is 4 under through eight holes and 10 under overall. Starting on the front nine, Gainey made four consecutive pars before notching two birdies and an eagle on his next four. Also 4 under on the round but a shot behind Gainey are Guy Boros and William McGirt, who each have completed eight holes on the back nine (their opening nine for Round 3). There are birdies to be had this afternoon at Annandale. Of the 71 players on the course, 35 are under par for the round while just 10 are over par. Jason Bohn has turned in a 5-under 67 that brings his two-round total to 13 under and ties him for the clubhouse lead. Billy Horschel reached that number before second-round play was suspended on Friday. Bohn birdied the par-5 7th to briefly reach 14 under but gave a shot back when he was unable to get up-and-down from a greenside bunker on No. 8.

HONOLULU – Bud Cauley and Jason Bohn, former University of Alabama golfers, were in a restaurant at their hotel in Honolulu on Monday to watch their Crimson Tide play LSU in the BCS championship game.

Yes, they could be heard -- loud and clear -- as Alabama won 21-0.

"I think everyone knew we were Alabama fans," said Cauley, a PGA TOUR rookie this year.

Was anybody else cheering for the Tide?

"No," Cauley replied, then added, "We converted a couple people by the end of the game."

Bohn played at Alabama in the early 1990s, but Cauley was at the school last year before turning pro in the summer and making enough money in eight starts to earn his PGA TOUR card. He was a student three years ago when Alabama previous won the national title, but was in Australia at the time and did not attend the game.

"I have a knack for being far away when they play these games," Cauley said. "Maybe that's a good thing. If we get in the (BCS title) game another time, I might go to India or something, just get as far away as I can.

"I think I might be bad luck."
