MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 42 | Forward to No. 40 | T op 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: If Jimmy Walker can start putting four rounds together, that elusive first victory may become reality in 2013. He only had one tournament last year where he shot four rounds in the 60s but he did improve from 50th to 16th in strokes-gained putting, though, so that's another positive.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: His third tie for fourth of the season, and his sixth top-10 of the year, came at the Frys.com Open where Walker fired a career-low-tying 62 on Sunday. His other ties for fourth came at the Northern Trust Open, on Walker's favorite course, and the Wyndham Championship, where he held the second-round lead after another 62. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: Jimmy had a chance to win the Frys.com Open with a final-round 62 that eventually resulted in a fourth-place finish. He is a very good putter, which leads to consistent play. At one point this year, Walker made nine cuts in a row. He played in 28 events and made an impressive 23 cuts. That's a lot of tournaments entered and a lot of paychecks cashed. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: Gamers lather in great putters that play a ton. Turns 34 in January and sets up as a very mild bargain in salary games at $1.638 million even though that was a career high. Forever injury prone, he's figured out how to play through and schedule around discomfort. Survived a lofty 23 cuts in 2012, seven more than in any of his previous five years on the PGA TOUR. Also posted a personal-best six top 10s in a career-high 28 starts, including in both appearances in the Fall Series. -- Rob Bolton, PGATOUR.COM Fantasy expert

Live Report Image

To preview the 2013 PGA TOUR season, PGATOUR.COM is counting down the Top 100 Players to Watch in 2013. For an archive page with the top 100 players and for an explanation on how the list was compiled, click here .

MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 43 | Forward to No. 41 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Scott Piercy continued to improve last year, picking up a second PGA TOUR win -- this one with his first invite to the Masters attached. The Las Vegas native isn't rolling the dice anymore. He belongs, and that tie for second at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions shows Piercy is getting more comfortable in the upper echelon.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: Piercy shot a course-record 62 in the first round of the RBC Canadian Open and the trio of 67s that followed were enough to give him the win, his second in as many years on TOUR. Interestingly, that victory brought a change in travel plans as Piercy earned a spot in his first World Golf Championships, just as the previous year's win at the Reno-Tahoe Open enabled him to make his PGA Championship debut the following week. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: A very emotional player, Scott has a lot of self-confidence. He introduced himself to an announcer a couple years ago and said, "You'll be calling a lot of my shots in the future." I would like to see him more emotionally level during a round but seems to turn frustration into motivation. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: If he isn't one of your favorite fantasy investments, then we'll never be friends. Posted 14 top 25s among 19 cuts made in 28 starts in 2012. Picked off his second career win and advanced to the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola for the first time. Didn't relent thereafter with a T6 at the Shriners, a T10 at the CIMB Classic (where he closed with a 62) and a T2 at the WGC-HSBC Champions. The birdie machine ranked fifth in final-round scoring average, which speaks to his fearlessness. Invest with confidence and enjoy the ride. -- Rob Bolton, PGATOUR.COM Fantasy expert

To preview the 2013 PGA TOUR season, PGATOUR.COM is counting down the Top 100 Players to Watch in 2013. For an archive page with the top 100 players and for an explanation on how the list was compiled, click here .

MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 44 | Forward to No. 42 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Johnson Wagner will be looking to win for the third straight year in 2013. Consistency will be key -- all four of Wagner's top-10 finishes last year came in the first three months of the year.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: Doing his best Tom Selleck impression with an abundant moustache, Wagner fired a 67 in the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii to win by two strokes. He nearly made it two straight at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation but his closing 65 left Wagner in second, two strokes behind Mark Wilson. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: How can we forget the 'stache? Johnson grew a mustache during the offseason and after winning the Sony Open, decided to keep the bottlebrush. The mustache never looked good but his golf game was certainly impressive. Johnson is not a long hitter but is a good putter. You seldom see him without a smile on his face. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: Zero top 25s in his final 20 starts of the year, including a pair of unofficial events in Asia. Because he's so streaky, he's unreliable in short-term formats. He doesn't mind a full schedule, so there's value deep in rosters, but he's not worth the $2.225 million sticker in salary games. -- Rob Bolton, PGATOUR.COM Fantasy expert

MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 45 | Forward to No. 43 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Padraig Harrington, the inveterate tinker, will be looking to break a victory drought that stretches back to his double-major season in 2008. He's trending in the right direction with a scoring average that improved from 88th to 13th at 69.736 and two top 10s in majors last year.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: Harrington fired a 61 in the first round of the Transitions Championship last year. It was the Irishman's lowest on the PGA TOUR by three strokes -- but he couldn't sustain the momentum and ended up tied for 20th. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: One of my great memories this year was watching Padraig Harrington shoot 61 in the opening round of Transitions. That was his only score in the 60s that week and eventually finished 20th. Harrington struggled with consistency but found some answers in winning the PGA Grand Slam Of Golf in October. Padraig is one of the harder workers on TOUR. You always see him working on the range. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: Tough to get excited about 41-year-old internationals that haven't committed to more than 18 events per season in three years. However, he logged a career-high 11 top 20s in 2012, so we can't rule out a second wind. Posted top 10s in the Masters and U.S. Open, tournaments for which he remains eligible in 2013. The moral of the story is that he's solid if not above-average value across the board.

46 | Forward to No. 44 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Ben Crane was bothered by inflammation around a disk in his back late in the season but with rest, he expected to be able to prepare for 2013 as he would any other year. That's good because the de facto leader of the "Golf Boys" tends to play well at the start of the season, witness those three top 10s in his first four starts last year.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: Some would say it was the rap-session on the 16th tee with Bubba Watson during the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. It must have been an omen because Crane closed with a 66 to finish a season-best second, one shot short of denying Kyle Stanley his redemptive win. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: Shame on us for not knowing how funny Ben can be. For years we just thought of him as a slow player. Crane has picked up the pace and picked up laughs on the way. He played the 16th hole in Phoenix wearing a helmet from one of his videos. Did you know Ben is also very good at table tennis? -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: Submitted a virtual carbon copy of 2011 albeit sans a victory. Also did the majority of his damage very early in the year. Seems to have learned how to manage a chronic back injury, so don't lose any sleep over that, but it downgrades his value a bit since he's been limited to 23 starts the last two years.

47 | Forward to No. 45 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Swede Peter Hanson will be playing the PGA TOUR full-time after earning enough as a special temporary member to finish among the top 125. A top-20 player in the world, Hanson had six European Tour wins -- will 2013 bring his breakthrough in the United States?

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: Hanson came up big in the big events this year -- tying for third at the Masters, where he led by one entering the final round, and seventh at the PGA. He also finished fifth or better in two of the World Golf Championships. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: The Swede played in just 11 PGA TOUR events in 2012 and yet still made more than $800,000 and almost won the Masters where he finished third. Hanson is a very good wedge player -- in fact he's ranked first on TOUR in approaches between 50-75 yards. All of his stats are unofficial because he did not play in enough events to be officially ranked. Hanson seems to play well in top events, posting top-10 finishes at Qatar, the WGC-Cadillac Championship and Augusta. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: The 35-year-old Swede will be a rookie on the PGA TOUR in 2013. That brings salary gamers back into play at $1.511 million. Meanwhile, he's proven that he can succeed anywhere, so all that's missing is a victory in a field where the world's best appear. He's been close on numerous occasions, so it's only a matter of time. I loved him entering 2012 and he delivered, and I'm not wavering. Go get him. -- Rob Bolton, PGATOUR.COM Fantasy expert

MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 49 | Forward to No. 47 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Two years on the PGA TOUR and two wins -- not too shabby for Scott Stallings, who missed a month last season with a rib injury. Healthy in 2013 -- can the perpetually-smiling Tennessee Tech grad keep up the pace?

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: All three of Stallings' top-10 finishes came in his final nine starts of 2012 as that victory at the True South Classic seemed to turn the season around. His four-day today of 24 under that included consecutive 64s was a tournament record and gave him his second straight shot at the FedExCup Playoffs, moving him from No. 163 to 95th. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: Scott is 27 years old and has already won a pair of PGA TOUR events, including this year's True South Classic. He is a long hitter who can be inconsistent on the greens but seems to find a way to score. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: Salvaged what was shaping up as an injury-induced sophomore slump (ribs) with a victory at the True South Classic. It was the first of six top 25s in nine starts to close out his season. It would be unfair to circle negative splits due to him grinding through his malady for half a year, but he obliterates par 5s and has ranked inside the top third on TOUR in greens in regulation since joining the circuit in 2011. Even though he's already a two-time winner, there are gamers that will undervalue his weapons. Don't be one of them.

50 | Forward to No. 48 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Tommy Gainey, the man who once made his living by wrapping insulation around hot water heaters, showed his determination to play by appearing twice on the Golf Channel's "Big Break" series, then successfully navigated his way through q-school in 2007. Now that Gainey has finally gotten that breakthrough victory, don't think he'll sit back and relax -- the South Carolinian is too much of a competitor for that.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: Gainey started the final round of The McGladrey Classic seven strokes off the pace being set by Jim Furyk and Davis Love III. Eight birdies and an eagle later he was the clubhouse leader after shooting a 60 that came within a 19-foot putt of tying for the TOUR's all-time low score. Gainey then had to wait more than two hours to find out whether victory was his as he ended up beating David Toms by a stroke. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: Is there a more popular winner on TOUR than Tommy Two Gloves? Some casual golf fans may think of him as, "that guy with the funky swing who wears gloves on both hands," but that's not what his fellow TOUR players think. Tommy's swing is unorthodox, however, it resulted in a tournament win and more than $1.5 million in earnings. Tommy's game is very respected inside the locker room. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: It's hard not to get giddy about a guy that has made 66 starts the last two seasons and capped off that stretch with his first PGA TOUR victory (McGladrey). What I love is his humility. Ignore the baseball influence and "Two Gloves" schtick. He's aggressive, plays a ton and comes across as quite comfortable in his own skin. To preview the 2013 PGA TOUR season, PGATOUR.COM is counting down the Top 100 Players to Watch in 2013. For an archive page with the top 100 players and for an explanation on how the list was compiled, click here .

MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 51 | Forward to No. 49 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Jeff Overton made steady progress last year, moving up 56 spots in GIR, 55 in scoring average and 22 in strokes-gained putting over his 2011 campaign. He's still looking for his first victory, though, and that will be priority No. 1 next year.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: The Indiana grad had already posted two top 10s when he came to the Deutsche Bank Championship ranked 83rd in the FedExCup. He dearly wanted to get to the BMW Championship which was being played the following week at Crooked Stick in his home state but Overton needed to work his way into the top 70 to get there. So he threw out a 64 in the first round at TPC Boston and went on to tie for seventh, moving safely to 40th and realizing the goal. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: I will always remember Jeff at the Deutsche Bank Championship. He desperately wanted to qualify for the BMW Championship in his home state of Indiana. How did he respond? He tied for seventh at TPC Boston including rounds of 69-68 on the weekend. Overton took a lot of pride in playing in his home state and every Hoosier along the Wabash turned out at Crooked Stick to cheer him. -- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: League championships are won with him in the trenches. Racked up another 29 starts in 2012, making the cut in 22 with four top 10s and another seven top 25s. Easily among the best active never to have won a PGA TOUR event. To preview the 2013 PGA TOUR season, PGATOUR.COM is counting down the Top 100 Players to Watch in 2013. For an archive page with the top 100 players and for an explanation on how the list was compiled, click here .

MORE TOP 100: Back to No. 52 | Forward to No. 50 | Top 100 archive

2013 PREVIEW: Charles Howell III will be focused on ending a victory-drought that has stretched to five years in 2013. His scoring average dropped from eighth in 2011 to 44th last year while his greens in regulation dripped more than two percentage points and his rank in strokes-gained putting fell from 30th to 93rd.

2012 DEFINING MOMENT: If there's ever a place Howell might be expected to get back into the winner's circle, it's at the Sony Open in Hawaii. He finished second to Johnson Wagner in that tournament last year, posting his sixth top-five finish and second runner-up in 11 starts at Waialae. –- Helen Ross, PGATOUR.COM

ALBERS’ QUICK TAKE: Charles is a better player than what his record would indicate. He has trouble closing out tournaments and I don’t know why. Howell finished second in Hawaii, and then disappeared until the Frys.com Open. He did finish the year strong and maybe that’s a springboard to 2013. Howell is 105th on TOUR in final round scoring average, and that has to improve..-- Fred Albers, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio

BOLTON’S FANTASY OUTLOOK: For a veteran that plays as often as he does -- he made 29 starts in 2012 -- you'd think he'd be an automatic buy at $1.284 million in salary games. However, he suffered a 16-event drought without a top 25 that spanned from April into October. He's carved out a living logging top 25s, averaging 11.33 per year since his rookie season of 2001. He had eight this year, but only two were top 10s to set a career low since acquiring fully exempt status. The good news is that he finished strong, but that also inflated his price tag. He's most attractive as a low-risk, predictable investment. CH3 is only 33 and has yet to finish outside the top 70 on the money list. -- Rob Bolton, PGATOUR.COM Fantasy expert
