    Early Player Commitments Include Two of World's Top Ten, Major Champions, Past-Champions and 2013 Winners 2012 Champion Ben Curtis Eager to Defend Title SAN ANTONIO, TX - Tournament officials announced today some exciting, early player commitments for the Valero Texas Open, scheduled for April 1-7 at the TPC-San Antonio AT&T Oaks Course. Several players will be competing in the tournament for the first time or returning after a lengthy absence. Four of those are major championship winners-- Padraig Harrington, Charl Schwartzel, Retief Goosen and Jim Furyk. Five-time TOUR winner and World No. 8 Matt Kuchar, winner of last week's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, will be making his second consecutive appearance at the Valero Texas Open. He finished T-13 here last year. Ian Poulter, currently ranked 10th in the world and winner of 15 tournaments worldwide, has committed to play in the Valero Texas Open for the first time. Other first-time competitors in the event include: Harrington, who won the 2007 and 2008 British Open as well as the 2008 PGA Championship; Schwartzel, winner of the 2011 Masters Tournament; and two-time U.S. Open champion Goosen. Furyk, winner of 16 PGA TOUR titles and the 2010 FedEx Cup, has not played in the Valero Texas Open since 1994. He finished tied for 15th that year. "With just over 30 days remaining until the Valero Texas Open tees off, we are very encouraged by the early names that are appearing on our commitment list," said Larson Segerdahl, Executive Director of the Valero Texas Open. "This year's event is sure to provide a lot of excitement and a great social environment from which to watch many of the world's top golfers compete, right here in San Antonio." Ben Curtis, the 2012 champion, will headline a group of past tournament winners returning in April. Other champions currently committed are Brendan Steele (2011), Justin Leonard (2000, 2001, 2007) and Tim Herron (1997). San Antonio fans will also have the opportunity to cheer for a few of their own. Resident Jimmy Walker, who has two top-five, finishes in his first six starts this year, and Cameron Beckman, a three-time winner on the PGA TOUR, will compete. Several players who are currently planning to attend have also started the 2013 season off in impressive fashion. John Merrick, winner of the Northern Trust Open two weeks ago is also scheduled to compete. Brian Gay, who picked up his fourth career title at the Humana Challenge and was voted the TOUR's Avis Player of the Month in January, will return. 2012 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, John Huh, will also return. Huh finished tied for second here last year. Players have until 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, March 29 to commit to the Valero Texas Open and can withdraw at any time. Tickets are on sale and are $15 through the tournament's Chip In for Schools program that runs through March 8.
