This is the designated “reachable par 5” that will force players to think carefully when planning their second shot. After a relatively easy tee shot, players are faced with a daunting decision. Do they play aggressively with their second shot, trying to carry the lake, which fronts the green, while not going too far over into the deep grassy hollow? Or play conservatively to the right, leaving a straightforward pitch to the green? If players do layback, the best angle into the green is from the right side of the fairway. The second landing area has two bunkers on the right side, and players will have the option of playing well short of the bunkers, leaving themselves a short pitch. The Statue of Liberty is never out of sight on Liberty National, but No. 13 affords one of the better views of the grand lady.
