JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The Barclays, which returns to Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J., August 20-25, is more than a golf tournament and a showcase of elite golf at a world-class facility.
The week is filled with activities that highlight the “good side of sports,” most notably, a commitment to honoring the men and women who serve in the U.S. Military. The Barclays will honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed forces throughout the week by offering free and discounted admission, as well as several special initiatives and events planned for Military Appreciation Day on Wednesday, August 21.
Military admission policy
The Barclays is proud to offer any active, retired, or Reserve military along with their dependents entrance to the tournament for free; military should visit birdiesforthebrave.sheerid.com/TheBarclays/ to download tickets. Veterans can access complimentary tickets through the Veterans Tickets Foundation and should visit www.vettix.com to register. All military personnel and dependents must present a military ID at the gate.
In addition, all active, retired, and Reserve military and their dependents, including veterans, will once again have access to the Birdies for the Brave® Patriots’ Outpost presented by Barclays, a hospitality chalet solely for current or past members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Open Thursday through Sunday, the air-conditioned tent is located on the fourth hole (behind the green) and will include free food and drink, as well as various scheduled activities and ceremonies.
Military appreciation activities
Kicking off tournament week, The Barclays, PGA TOUR and Birdies for the Brave will partner with Be a Hero, Hire a Hero to host a Military Job Fair for local veterans on Monday, August 19, with approximately 35 local companies scheduled to participate.
On Tuesday, August 20, The Barclays is proud to host a Callaway Warrior Club Fitting Presented by Birdies for the Brave. Local Wounded Warriors will be custom fit for a brand new set of Callaway clubs and get a special tour of the Callaway TOUR truck from 3-5 p.m. at the practice facility.
Wednesday, August 21, is Military Appreciation Day, highlighted by The Barclays Military Appreciation Ceremony at approximately 12:45 p.m. on the No. 4 fairway. The ceremony will feature a Color Guard, National Anthem performance and Drill Team, and the special guest is General Raymond T. Odierno, the 38th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.
Also on Wednesday, The Barclays will host “Operation Shower” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Patriots’ Outpost Presented by Barclays. The event offers a once-in-a-lifetime baby shower to 40 pregnant women whose spouses are deployed. Event sponsors are Barclays and Carousel Designs. In addition, members of the military will serve in honorary roles throughout tournament week, including holding positions of prominence as military caddies on the fourth hole, during the Wednesday Pro-Am.
