2004 Farmers Charity Classic Charity Selection
Each year, the Farmers Charity Classic on behalf of the Grand Rapids Jaycees Foundation solicits West Michigan's 2000 area
non-profits to apply to receive a portion of the charitable dollars generated by the tournament. Listed below are the types
of grants that are awarded, as well as an explanation of who selects them and a brief definition of each category.
Lead Charity
The Lead Charity is the organization which receive the greatest portion of the tournament earnings. For 2004, The Ronald
McDonald House of Western Michigan has been selected as the Lead Charity.
Primary Charities
As our tournament Title Sponsor, Farmers Insurance Group selects two Primary Charities. Primary Charities have not yet
been selected for the 2004 tournament.
Secondary Grants
These smaller grants (requests are accepted for items with a cost of $1-$10,000) are based on tournament earnings and they
are awarded after the tournament each year. For 2002, Secondary Grants were awarded to Camp Blodgett, Visiting Nurses Association,
Grand Rapids Wheelchair Sports Association, The Gerontology Network and Family Outreach Center.
Featured Charity
This charity is not selected as part of the normal grants process. Although the Foundation may choose to openly solicit
for a Featured Charity, special consideration will be given to the organizations that have previously been a Lead, Primary
or Featured Charity. For 2004, D.A. Blodgett Services for Children & Families/Big Brother Big Sisters Program has been
selected as the Featured Charity.
