Charitable Impact

At the Deutsche Bank Championship we take pride in our efforts to make a positive impact on our community. The Championship has a strong tradition of charitable giving that generated $2.8 million just last year. Our grand total in charity contributions is nearly $17 million since our inception just seven years ago.

The Championship helps drive charitable proceeds annually to the Tiger Woods Learning Center, the Stop & Shop/Giant Family Foundation and many other deserving New England charities through various programs and events.

The primary beneficiary of the Deutsche Bank Championship is the Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC), an educational facility that helps thousands of students from diverse backgrounds broaden their perspectives of the world, explore their interests and investigate new possibilities for the future.  Many of the local charities throughout New England that benefit from the Championship and its Birdies for Charity program also serve a similar mission of supporting the education and empowerment of youth and families in our community.

Check out some of our charitable programs listed below and help us in our mission to empower and educate the youth and families in our surrounding communities.

Our Charities

Since 2003, the primary beneficiary of the Deutsche Bank Championship has been the Tiger Woods Foundation in conjunction with Tiger Woods Learning Center (TWLC).  The TWLC is a one-of-a-kind educational facility custom built for the underserved youth of Southern California.  Its programs provide 4th-12th grade students with interactive enrichment programs in conventional areas of education such as reading, math, science and technology as well as many non-conventional curricula ranging from service learning to sports and fitness.

The mission of the Tiger Woods Foundation is to empower young people to reach their highest potential by initiating and supporting community-based programs that promote the health, education, and welfare of all of America's children.  For more information on the Tiger Woods Foundation or the Tiger Woods Learning Center, visit their website at www.tigerwoodsfoundation.org.

With the support of the Deutsche Bank America's Foundation, the TWLC and the Stop & Shop Giant Family Foundation, the Deutsche Bank Championship has had the opportunity to support many local New England charities over the years as well.  Below is a list of just a few of the organizations that have benefited from the Championship over the years:

Towns of Mansfield & Norton
The First Tee of Massachusetts
The Red Sox Foundation
Stop & Shop Giant Family Foundation
Hockomock Area YMCA
Norton/Attleboro YMCA
Golf Fights Cancer
Greater Boston Food Bank

Birdies for Charity

The Deutsche Bank Championship's Birdies for Charity Program is an initiative that allows charities and/or non-profit organizations to utilize the Deutsche Bank Championship as a vehicle for fundraising. Birdies for Charity is a fun, easy, spirited and interactive way for these organizations to raise money in support of their cause. This multi-level fundraising program is designed to give participating charities the opportunity to generate contributions based on the number of "birdies" made by the professional golfers during the Deutsche Bank Championship's four official rounds of competition.

This program has two primary components:

1. Solicitation of pledges from individuals and/or corporations to specific charities.
2. "Guess the Birdies" contest.

The Deutsche Bank Championship's Birdies for Charity program allows you to be an advocate for the charity of your choice. Charities receive 100% of all paid pledges solicited on their behalf.

Similar to a walk-a-thon or marathon, the primary goal of the Birdies for Charity program is to successfully solicit and collect pledges of one (1) cent or more from the general public and/or corporate donors for every "birdie" made during the Deutsche Bank Championship.

As a bonus, each person who makes a pledge to the Birdies for Charity program will have the opportunity to win two great prizes. Each pledge of $0.01 per birdie or more will allow the donor a chance to enter the "Guess the Birdies" Contest. The contestant who guesses the correct number of birdies made by PGA TOUR professionals will win the Grand Prize of Two (2) season tickets for the 2011 Red Sox at Fenway Park. The First Place Prize is a trip for two to Bermuda, including an all-expenses paid trip for two (2) to the 2010 PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Port Royal.

DB Partners for Charity

DB Partners for Charity is a Deutsche Bank Championship initiative that capitalizes on the generosity of our partners around the Championship to make a positive impact on our community.  For the 2010 season, DB Partners for Charity is hosting two special events during the month of July, the DB Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out and the DB Partners for Charity Camp Harbor View Harborthon 5K.

DB Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out

The DB Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out is an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament event featuring some of the top 99 male and female golfers between the ages of 12-18.  These junior golfers represent golfers from 17 different states and three foreign countries, but also has a very strong presence of New England-based students. This tournament allows junior golfers an opportunity to gain experience through competition while also showcasing their abilities in front of numerous college coaches.

About the AJGA:  The AJGA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.  For more information on the AJGA visit their website at www.ajga.org

The 2010 DB Partners for Charity Junior Shootout was held at the Golf Club of
Cape Cod in Falmouth, Mass. from July 19-22. Michael Johnson (Birmingham, AL) won the boys' division at +4, and Juliet Vongphoumy (Providence, RI) won the girls' divison at even par.

The DB Partners for Charity Camp Harbor View Harborthon 5K

Deutsche Bank has been involved with Camp Harbor View since its inception in 2007.  The DB Partners for Charity Camp Harbor View Harborthon 5K is a certified 5K out and back race on Long Island in Massachusetts that plays host to more than 500 runners from all different athletic backgrounds.  In its first year hosting the race in 2009, Camp Harbor View raised $110,000 for its camp programming.  In 2010, Camp Harbor View raised $130,000. Because of the unusual venue (Long Island is not open to the public), this race offers a unique opportunity for runners and volunteers to see and experience what Camp Harbor View has to offer.  The 2010 DB Partners for Charity Camp Harbor View Island 5K took place on Thursday, July 29.  For more information about the 5K event visit  www.campharborview5k.com.

About Camp Harbor View:  The mission of Camp Harbor View is to provide an opportunity for close to 700 children from Boston's at-risk neighborhoods to experience the joys of summer day camp in a beautiful, safe location on an island in Boston Harbor. In addition to having the chance to participate in athletics, arts and crafts, nature study and leadership training, they will learn about life options that they've never imagined and receive support that many of them have never before encountered. For more information on Camp Harbor View visit their website at www.campharborviewfoundation.org.

John D. Mineck Junior Cup

In conjunction with the Deutsche Bank Championship, the fifth-annual John D. Mineck DBC Junior Cup will showcase 36 of the nation's top junior golfers (ages 11-18) on Sept. 4-5 at Boston Golf Club in Hingham, Mass. Affiliated with the U.S. Junior Challenge Cup Junior Golf Foundation, the DBC Junior Cup bears the name of its late co-founder, John D. Mineck, a long-time supporter of junior golf and the co-founder of Boston Golf Club who passed away in 2007.

The tournament will feature a Ryder Cup format, pitting Team New England (captained by Dave Adamonis, Jr.) against Team USA (captained by Steve Feinstein) through 18 four-player, best-ball matches worth four points each. Last year, Team New England defeated Team USA, 44-28.

Upon conclusion of the DBC Junior Cup, Boston Golf Club and the Deutsche Bank Championship will present the DBC Junior Cup to the winning team, as well as name the winners of the John D. Mineck Sportsmanship Award and the John D. Mineck Foundation Scholarship Award.

Golf FORE Groceries

In June 2009, President Obama launched a nationwide volunteer effort called United We Serve. As an extension of this mission as well as the PGA TOUR's "Golf Fore Groceries" initiative, the Championship held a food drive from Aug. 30-Sept. 7, 2009. During this time, the Championship hosted food drops at four local Stop & Shop supermarkets as well as collected canned food donations on site at every entrance during Championship week.

Thanks to the support of our spectators and volunteers, the Championship collected a total of 4,246 pounds of food during the drive. The food collected was donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank as well as two local pantries in Mansfield, and Norton, Mass., providing approximately 3,237 meals for people and families in need.

In addition, State Street and Stop & Shop donated enough food to pack 1000 "Healthy Packs" for the kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Fall River. Each "pack" provided a child in need with eight different kid friendly, healthy food items.
