Hole No. 5 on Cog Hill's newly-renovated Dubsdread.
Cog Hill Golf & Country Club's Course No. 4, Dubsdread, has earned the respect of PGA TOUR professionals since the championship moved to Cog Hill in 1991. Now, newly-renovated in 2008, Dubsdread promises to offer an even more challenging venue for the BMW Championship.
Dubsdread, ranked 29th in Golf Digest's 100 "Greatest Public Courses," has provided exciting finishes and thrilling golf as the site of Chicago's only PGA TOUR championship. Cog Hill No. 4 was designed and built by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee in 1964 and is owned by the Jemsek family. The course features large, tiered bentgrass greens; tree-lined, bentgrass fairways; 110 sand bunkers and water hazards on six holes.
Dubsdread was renovated in 2008 by famed golf course architect Rees Jones.
| Hole | Par | Yards | |
| 1 | 4 | 438 |
A 455-yard par 4, the first hole is a dogleg left with sand on both sides of the tee-shot landing area. With a good drive in the fairway, players are left with an approximate 140-yard shot to the green. |
| 2 | 3 | 180 |
This 180-yard, par 3 features a green surrounded by bunkers. The tee shot must travel through a narrow entrance guarded by trees to a green contoured left in front, mounded in the middle and sloping away in back. |
| 3 | 4 | 424 |
With water on both sides of the fairway near the landing area, this par-4, 424-yard hole requires accuracy off the tee. Most players are left with a challenging 140-yard second shot to a two-tiered green. |
| 4 | 4 | 434 |
One of the toughest holes on the front nine, the 434-yard par 4 has a creek and sand on each side of the fairway and a
tight, sloping green surrounded by deep sand bunkers. |
| 5 | 4 | 480 |
One of three long par 4s on the course, this hole was converted in 2007 from a 525-yard par 5. The second shot must negotiate multiple bunkers in front of the green. |
| 6 | 3 | 242 |
A long par 3 at 242 yards, this hole features a two-tiered green that slopes to the front fringe, surrounded by five sand bunkers. This is the most difficult par 3. |
| 7 | 4 | 425 |
This 425-yard par 4 doglegs right. The fairway is lined with trees on both sides, with a large sand bunker blocking the primary
landing area. Most players are left with a 140-yard second shot to the elevated green. |
| 8 | 4 | 384 |
With water on both sides of the fairway and trees protecting the landing area on this 384-yard par 4, most players hit a long iron or fairway wood off the tee. The two-tiered green slopes forward and is guarded by deep bunkers. |
| 9 | 5 | 600 |
The most difficult of the par 5s, this hole has been lengthened to 600 yards with a tight, tree-lined fairway. The green slopes slightly from back to front. |
| 10 | 4 | 380 |
This 380-yard par 4 is a great birdie opportunity if the player misses the trees on both sides and lands his tee shot in the fairway. |
| 11 | 5 | 564 |
Another good birdie opportunity, this 564-yard par 5 is reachable in two, but a sharp dogleg on the approach can make this small green tough to hit. There is out-of-bounds to the right and bunkers to the left of the landing area, and second shots to the green must carry the trees. |
| 12 | 3 | 220 |
A downhill par 3 with trees and out-of-bounds surrounding the back side of the green, this 220-yard hole is guarded by deep sand bunkers. |
| 13 | 4 | 482 |
This 482-yard par 4 was the most difficult hole on the course in 1995. The green, tucked behind water to the left, a ravine in front and sand on both sides, is difficult to hit in regulation unless the tee shot is perfectly positioned in the middle of the fairway. Gusting winds can make the second shot tricky. |
| 14 | 3 | 192 |
The large green on this 192-yard par 3 slopes from right to left and is surrounded by sand bunkers. The key is to land the tee shot below the cup. |
| 15 | 5 | 519 |
This 519-yard par 5 is a prime eagle opportunity. The hole is straightaway with a slight dogleg right at the green. |
| 16 | 4 | 445 |
The 445-yard, par-4 dogleg left has trees to the right of the landing area, water to the left and a fairway that slopes to the left. The green is flat with trees and sand surrounding three sides. |
| 17 | 4 | 420 |
This 420-yard slight dogleg right requires a tee shot in the fairway. Look for most players to hit a fairway wood or long iron for placement. The level green is well-bunkered with water and brush to the right and behind. |
| 18 | 4 | 480 |
A great finishing hole and the most difficult hole on the course. The fairway and green on this 480-yard par 4 both slope toward a pond on the left, often an unfortunate landing area for second shots. |
