Sandy Lyle become the first international player to win THE PLAYERS Championship when he beat Jeff Sluman in a playoff in 1987. Since then, longtime European star Colin Montgomerie has made the best showing of any Scotsman at TPC Sawgrass with four top-10 finishes in a seven-year stretch. The 26-year-old Martin Laird now takes the baton from Monty.
