(October 24, 2006) - No one possesses the substance of Tiger Woods on the golf course, but fans can arrive in Tiger's style at the eighth-annual Target World Challenge presented by Countrywide -- a PGA TOUR co-sponsored event hosted by Woods and held at Sherwood Country Club from Dec. 13-17 -- through the tournament's Fall Sweepstakes' online ticket promotion. Golf fans reserving Target World Challenge tickets online, beginning today through Nov. 30, are automatically entered into Nov. 13 and Dec. 1 drawings for a Nike cap autographed by the world's best and most recognizable player. Fans faithful to Southern California-native Woods - the 2001 and 2004 Target World Challenge champion -- and appreciative of the star-studded, 16-player field that annually arrives to play the most highly regarded event following the PGA TOUR season are wise to reserve tickets now. This is the event's final online advance ticket promotion.
The Target World Challenge, Woods' last tournament appearance in California this year, will mark the completion of one of Woods' finest and most memorable years of his professional career. The PGA TOUR's money leader has won eight of the 15 PGA TOUR events he has played, including the last six - the British Open, the Buick Open, the PGA Championship, the Bridgestone Invitational, the Deutsche Bank Championship and the WGC-American Express Championship.
"Tiger's streak is just one element of a really amazing field," Tiger Woods Foundation President Greg McLaughlin said. "Tickets are going quickly, so we are encouraging fans to purchase their tickets early."
Woods' latest British Open and PGA Championship victories leave him alone in second place on the all-time Major win list with 12. He is fifth on the all-time PGA TOUR win list with 54 victories and his current string of consecutive PGA TOUR victories is his longest since he put together a six-tournament winning streak in 1999-2000. His current wave of form is rarely matched in golf history.
The Target World Challenge will feature 16 of the world's top golfers competing for their share of the $5.75 million purse. First prize is $1.35 million - a winner's check bigger than what any Major offers - and no golfer leaves with less than $170,000. Tournament host Woods and defending champion Luke Donald will head a field that includes Donald's fellow European Ryder Cup winners Henrik Stenson, David Howell, Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Jose Maria Olazabal, Padraig Harrington and Darren Clarke, American Ryder Cup players Chris DiMarco and David Toms, Australians and Target World Challenge rookies Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy, and select special exemption players Fred Couples, John Daly and Davis Love III, who were chosen by the Tiger Woods Foundation.
The best bargain is a Weekly Gallery Badge, which can be purchased for $75. The Weekly Gallery Badge is a grounds-only credential for the entire tournament week (Wednesday-Sunday). Daily Gallery Passes, which are grounds-only passes for individual days, can be purchased for any single day. They are $25 per day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and $35 per day on Saturday and Sunday. Executive Club Tickets, which include skybox seating and hospitality, are also available. Daily Youth Tickets (ages 13-17) are $10 per day and can be purchased at the gate only. Children 12 and under are admitted free if accompanied by a paid adult (limit two children per paid adult). All tickets are subject to space availability.
General admission parking is free and complimentary pairings guides are available daily on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tournament week begins with a Pro-Am on Wednesday, Dec. 13, and the four-day tournament begins Thursday, Dec. 14, and continues through Sunday, Dec. 17.
Sherwood Country Club, which opened 17 years ago, is again expected to provide a stern test for golf's top players. Rated as one of the best golf courses in the world, Sherwood Country club features 1,800 mature oak trees and lush landscaping including waterfalls, jasmine and rose bushes.
Tournament proceeds will benefit the Tiger Woods Learning Center and the Start Something Program.
