VOLUNTEERING, THE HEART OF THE TOURNAMENT...Thosands of hour are spent to put a golf tournament together, and hundreds of volunteers dedicate their time to help run an event that will benefit their community. The Mark Christopher Charity Classic, presented by The County of San Bernardino will enter its 8th year in Rancho Cucamonga and 14th yearsince its inception. The single largest change you will see in the 2007 production is the increased number of volunteers. Each year, more and more volunteers gather to help with administration duties, charity auciton evnts, construction, course marshals, credentials, ecology, distribution, promotions, ticket sales, transportation, walking scorers and other behind the scenes responsibilities that are neeeded for a successful tournament. An estimated 700 volunteers will assist in the event this year. At the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday, the tournament will present awards to two deserving individuals, the "Travis Henderson Award" and the "Volunteer of the Week". The "Travis Henderson Award" is very special to the tournament. Travis Henderson of Riverside is the only volunteer with a 14 year history with the event. Travis currently serves as the Scoring Central Chairman. In his honor, a trophy is awarded to the outstanding volunteer who shows the same enthusiasm and dedication to the tournament's success, named in his honor. In year's past, hailing from Scotland, Peter Brown has taken his vacation time to volunteer for the tournament each year for the past seven years. To acknowledge Peter's dedication and commitment as a volunteer, Executive Director, Stephen Wagner named Peter as the 2004 recipient of the "Travis Henderson Award". Peter has become our "Honorary Starter" at the 1st Tee in his native Scottish attire to commemorate the tournament's international connection. In addition, the Nationwide Tour "Volunteer of the Week" award is presented to the volunteer that has shown leadership and perserverance during the week of the tournament.
