|2009 RUNNER-UP RICKIE FOWLER AMONG EARLY COMMITMENTS TO 2010 FRYS.COM OPEN|
The 2010 Frys.com Open will tee it up at CordeValle in a little more than three months and has already received some early commitments.
The tournament has received an early commitment from the 2009 runner-up Rickie Fowler and two-time PGA TOUR winner Tom Pernice Jr. Pernice represents the Frys.com Open on the PGA TOUR as well as playing a mentor role to Fowler. They both play and practice out of Bear Creek Golf and Country Club in Murrieta, Calif.
PGA TOUR members have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, to commit to play in the Frys.com Open. Eligible players are assigned one of 38 PGA TOUR priority rankings based on past performances on the PGA TOUR. The field will continue to change as players with better priority rankings commit to play in the Frys.com Open.
Additionally, Frys.com Open tournament director Ian Knight announced today that Kevin Chappell will receive the first sponsor exemption for the 2010 Frys.com Open. Knight will hand out a total of eight sponsor exemptions for the tournament, scheduled to be played, October 11-17.
"Kevin Chappell is a very talented young up-and-comer who has become a household name here in the Bay area," said Knight. "He spent four years as a stand-out golfer at UCLA and most recently won the Nationwide Tour's 2010 Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae. He will be a great addition to our event."
Chappell, who turned pro in 2008, plays mainly on the Nationwide Tour capturing his first title earlier this year at the 2010 Fresh Express Classic placing him at the top of the money list with $194,081. He also has five career PGA TOUR starts dating back to 2008, with his best finish coming at the 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am where he tied for 6th. Chappell graduated from UCLA where he captured the NCAA individual title in 2008 and lead his team to the National Championship. UCLA hosts an annual collegiate tournament, the Gifford Collegiate Championship, at CordeValle.
