FedExCup Points Structure

Basic Outline
The FedExCup is a season-long competition in which players accumulate points based upon their finish in each PGA TOUR Regular Season and PGA TOUR Playoff event. At the end of the PGA TOUR Playoffs, the winning player will be crowned the FedExCup Champion.

PGA TOUR Season
The PGA TOUR season encompasses 44 weeks and is divided into two segments: the 37-week FedExCup and the 7-event PGA TOUR Fall Series. Within the FedExCup will be the 33-week PGA TOUR Regular Season and 4-week PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. The Regular Season will include events between the beginning of each calendar year and the middle of August. The PGA TOUR Playoffs will include four events beginning the last full week in August through the third weekend in September. The PGA TOUR Fall Series will take place between the end of the Playoffs and the first weekend in November. Specific details of events falling into each segment will be published annually with the PGA TOUR schedule.

Points Distribution – PGA TOUR Regular Season
•Official PGA TOUR events played during the Regular Season will each award 25,000 FedExCup points.

•The Masters Tournament, THE PLAYERS Championship, US Open Championship, British Open and the PGA Championship will award 27,500 FedExCup points.

•World Golf Championship events during the Regular Season will award 26,250 FedExCup points.

•Additional events played during the PGA TOUR Regular Season (those played the same week as a major or World Golf Championships event) will award 12,500 FedExCup points.

Limited-field events will not redistribute the points for places that do not play. Those points are not awarded to the field and the total points distributed will be slightly less than the total points as defined above. For example, if the 2007 Mercedes-Benz Championship has a field of 30 players, the points awarded will be based on the points that would be awarded to each individual position in a full-field event from positions 1 to 30. This will result in the points that would have otherwise been awarded from positions 31-70 in a standard event not being awarded in the tournament.

Another example is the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. In this limited-field event, points for positions 65 and beyond would not be awarded. All players losing in the first round would receive points for a T33 finish. All players losing in the second round would receive points for a T17 finish. All players losing in the third round would receive points for a T9 finish. All players losing in the fourth round would receive points for a T5 finish. All players losing in the fifth round would receive points for a T3 finish and first and second place points would be awarded as they stand.

Point Distribution by Finish Position
In all cases during the Regular Season, points will be distributed based on the same percentages used for a standard event purse distribution. The table below shows the specific number of points awarded to each position in each of the four main types of Season events.

Ties – Points will be distributed to those in tying positions using the same method currently used to distribute purses when there is a tie. That is, the total points for each tying position will be averaged and that average will be distributed to each player in the tying position.

Playoff Reset
At the conclusion of the Regular Season, the top 144 players in points plus ties will be eligible to play in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. At that point, each player will receive reset points based on his finish in the Regular Season as outlined below.

In the event that there is a tie, reset points will be distributed between the tying positions using the same methods for dealing with ties during events. That is, the total points for each of the tying positions are averaged and awarded to all players in the tying position.

PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup
The 144 players who earn reset points will be eligible to play in the first Playoff event. In the event that one of those players is unable or chooses not to play, the field will shortened and no alternates will be added.

The PGA TOUR Playoffs will feature a progressive cut through the first three events to determine the final 30 players who qualify for THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. The Barclays opens the Playoffs with 144 players, followed by the Deutsche Bank Championship with 120 and the BMW Championship with 70.

Players’ point totals throughout the Playoffs will include both reset points and points earned during each Playoff Event. If any of the 30 eligible players is unable or chooses not to play in THE TOUR Championship, alternates will not be added to fill the field. Points will still be awarded as shown below. Points from the missing positions will not be awarded.

All Playoff Events will award 50,000 total points. The first three events will award points using the same breakdown as the current purse distribution. Points awarded for THE TOUR Championship will be adjusted for the smaller number of players in the field and rounded slightly for simplicity. Specific point distributions are shown below:

Other Notes
In every event, points are distributed to all players earning official money with exception of those that are not regular PGA TOUR members. Only players who are regular members as defined by PGA TOUR tournament regulations will be eligible to earn points. Special temporary members and amateurs will not be eligible to earn FedExCup points. Points that would have otherwise been earned by non-members or special temporary members will not be awarded. For example, if a non-member finishes 3rd at an event and a regular PGA TOUR member finishes 4th, the PGA TOUR member will receive 4th place points – third place points will not be awarded at all.

Points will be awarded at official money PGA TOUR Regular Season events. For example, the 2005 Nissan Open, which was shortened to 36 holes, is listed as an unofficial victory but awarded official money. This event would award FedExCup points.

All players that are not regular PGA TOUR members but choose to join during the season will be eligible to earn points on a prospective basis. Points are not awarded retroactively. For example, if a non-member wins a Regular Season event and then chooses to join the membership, he will earn points for all events going forward in the season, but not for the event he just won.
