SINGAPORE -- The Lexus Cup, an LPGA Tour-sanctioned women's team tournament that ended Sunday in Singapore, will be played next year in the western Australian city of Perth, organizers said Monday. The tournament pits a global selection against the best in Asia in a Ryder Cup-style format. "It is time for others outside of Singapore to experience the Lexus Cup and Perth was a natural choice as it is a top tourist destination which has some of the best courses in the world," Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Senior Vice President Shigeru Takayanagi was quoted as saying in a statement. The statement did not mention the tournament's next date and venue, but said other details would be provided closer to the event. Led by South Korea's Grace Park, the 12-member Asian team defeated the International team captained by world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam 12 1/2 to 11 1/2 in this year's three-day tournament at the 6,620-yard par-72 Tanah Merah Country Club Garden course. Other Asian players in the tournament included world No. 17 Seon-hwa Lee of South Korea, LPGA Hall of Famer Se Ri Pak, Jee-young Lee, Young Kim, Hee-won Han and Japan's Sakura Yokomine. ADT Champion Julieta Granada of Paraguay, Americans Paula Creamer and Natalie Gulbis, World Matchplay champion Brittany Lincicome and England's Laura Davies were among members of the International team. Asia's win in Singapore was worth U.S. $50,000 to each team member while the losers received U.S. $30,000. Last year, the International team won the inaugural event 16-8. ©The Associated Press.
