PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa -- Patrik Sjoland of Sweden shot a course-record 8-under-par 64 Friday, making birdies on his last four holes to take a one-stroke lead halfway through the South African Open.

He was at 12-under 132 after two rounds on the links course. Ernie Els (66) and Trevor Immelman (66) were at 133, with Retief Goosen (66) and Andrew Raitt (68) at 135.

Sjoland started well, completing his front nine in 30.

"All of a sudden, all the cameras came and I got nervous for a few holes," he said. "But I managed to get myself to together and finished nicely."

Goosen and Raitt were the first to take advantage of windless conditions, setting the early clubhouse mark at 9 under.

"We all know she (the course) isn't showing her teeth yet and we've been quite lucky," Els said.

Goosen birdied Nos. 15 and 16 and then eagled No. 17, the hole on which he carded an 11 in the first round.

Immelman then carded three birdies and an eagle from No. 14 to lead by two, but a bogey on No. 18 halted his move.

Behind him, Els chipped in for an eagle on No. 16 and birdied No. 17 to share the lead with Immelman. Then Sjoland closed in a surge.
