PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Jim Thorpe shot a 2-under 70 at Spyglass Hill to join four others atop the leaderboard Friday after two rounds of the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational. Thorpe, reigning AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am titlist Arron Oberholser (69), Bubba Dickerson (67), and Nationwide Tour players Michael Putnam (71) and Parker McLachlin (70) all have 7-under 137 totals.
Jason Bohn (69) is alone at 138, followed by Nationwide player Thorpe, who concluded the Champions Tour season with a victory in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship three weeks ago, had four birdies and two bogeys. "I had a pretty solid round," Thorpe said. "But I really didn't make any putts. I didn't birdie any of the par 5s, but I hit the ball well." The tournament features 81 players from the four major Tours, plus mini-tour players and club pros. A Champions Tour entrant has never won the event, now in its 35th consecutive year. Juli Inkster, who defeated Mark Brooks by one shot in 1990, is the only woman titlist. Ken Duke and defending champion Nick Watney shared the day's low round with 66s, both at Del Monte, and moved back into contention. Duke has a 140 total and is among seven players trailing the co-leaders by three shots. ©The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. |
