1939 Prevailed over Craig Wood in the second 18-hole playoff, 70-73, for his only U.S. Open victory
1939 Awarded the Vardon Trophy by the PGA of America for the best overall record on the PGA TOUR
1940 Defeats Sam Snead in the championship match to capture his first PGA Championship
1942 Defeats Ben Hogan, 69-70, in a playoff to win second Masters title
1944-1946 Nelson won 34 times on TOUR, and took second place 16 times
1945 Wins 11 consecutive tournaments on TOUR. Other accomplishments included 18 victories that year, seven second-place finishes, 19 consecutive rounds under 70, and a scoring average of 68.33
