The four-way tie for the lead matches the Ford Championship at Doral and the PGA Championship for most leaders at the halfway point this season. •The PGA TOUR rookie class is making a splash this week as there are four rookies inside the top-10 entering the weekend: Camilo Villegas (tied for first), Nathan Green (tied for fith), Trevor Immelman (tied for fifth) and Eric Axley (tied for fifth). •A co-leader through 36 holes, rookie Camilo Villegas sits No. 38 on the PGA TOUR money list with two runners-up at the FBR Open and THE PLAYERS Championship. •Australia’s Nathan Green (tied for fith) remained at 6-under-par after a 70 on Friday. Green leads all rookies with six top-10s, including a runner-up at the Buick Invitational, where he lost in a three-man playoff won by Tiger Woods. Green leads the field with two eagles this week. •South African Trevor Immelman (tied for fifth) leads all rookies this year with $3,160,246 in earnings, seventh on the current PGA TOUR money list. The world’s 14th-ranked golfer has five top-10s including a victory at the Cialis Western Open by two strokes over Tiger Woods and Matthew Goggin. Immelman finished tied for seventh last year in his first Canadian Open start. The last rookie to finish the season inside the top-10 on the PGA TOUR money list was Jerry Pate (1976) when he finished 10th. •Rookie Eric Axley (tied for fifth) has made only nine cuts in 21 starts and sits 191st on the TOUR money list with $191,238. He has two top-25s to date – tied for 24th at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson and tied for 24th at the B.C. Open presented by Turning Stone Resort. Axley’s 4-under-par 66 included a double-bogey 6 on No. 15. •Arron Oberholser (tied for first) continues his strong play as of late, having notched a top-10 in his last start at the Bridgestone Invitational, his first career World Golf Championships event. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am earlier this year. Oberholser has three career wins in Canada -- two on the Canadian Tour (1999 Ontario Open and 1999 Eagle Creek Classic) and one on the Nationwide Tour (2002 Samsung Canadian PGA Championship). He was the International Rookie of the Year on the Canadian Tour in 1999. •Jonathan Byrd (tied for first) birdied his final three holes (Nos. 7-9) to move into a first-place tie entering the weekend. •Canadian amateur Victor Ciesielski aced No. 6, his 15th hole on the day, with a 3-iron from 210 yards. The hole-in-one was the first at the Canadian Open since Craig Barlow did so last year in the third round. Ciesielski made the cut and sits tied for 32nd at 2-under-par entering the weekend. •Canadian Mike Weir’s streak of consecutive cuts on the PGA TOUR was snapped at 17 this week. His streak was second to Ernie Els (39) for consecutive cuts made. Robert Allenby (16) now holds that distinction. It was also the second consecutive missed cut at the Canadian Open for Weir after a runner-up finish to Vijay Singh in 2004. •Tom Pernice, Jr., (tied for fifth) is having a career year in earnings ($1,842,258) and has tied his career-high for top-10s with five. •Joey Sindelar’s streak of 11 consecutive made cuts at the Canadian Open came to a halt this week. The 11 were tied for fourth longest in tournament history with Doug Ford (1955-65). George Cumming made 15 straight from 1907-25 (no championship 1915-18). •On Friday, Brett Quigley tied the course record (63) set in the first round by Jim Furyk and matched later in the day by Justin Rose. Quigley rebounded from a first-round 71 and sits tied for fifth entering the weekend’s action. Without a PGA TOUR win to his credit in 277 starts, Quigley is No. 110 on the all-time TOUR money list with $6,502,364. •Steve Sticker (tied for 16th) played his way into the Canadian Open with a tie for seventh last week at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Stricker entered this season with Past Champion status but has managed to post five top-10s, including top-10s at both the U.S. Open (tied for sixth) and the PGA Championship (tied for seventh). His earnings of $1,469,668 are 40th on the current TOUR money list. •After a rocky start to his sophomore campaign that included a stretch of four consecutive missed cuts in the first two months of the season, Sean O’Hair (tied for fifth) has shown marked improvement in the last two months. He has now made seven straight cuts, including a tie for fourth at the Buick Open. •Ryuji Imada’s bogey-free streak ended at 39 holes on Friday with a bogey on his 11th hole (No. 2), dating back to the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship where he finished tied for 18th. •There were two bogey-free rounds on Friday -- Mark O’Meara and Brett Quigley -- bringing the total through 36 holes to six. •1995 champion Mark O’Meara (tied for 32nd) made his 11th career cut in 16 starts at the Canadian Open. •There were four withdrawals on Friday -- Jay Delsing withdrew prior to the second round. Stephen Ames and Todd Fischer both withdrew after nine holes due to a back injury. Ron Whittaker withdrew after nine holes due to a right wrist injury. •The cut came at even-par 140 -- just seven strokes off the leaders score at 7-under-par. The last time the difference between the leaders and the cut line was just seven strokes was the 2005 Southern Farm Bureau Classic. Seventy-seven players will play this weekend. •With dryer conditions and winds up to 20 mph, the course played almost one stroke more difficult in the second round (69.974 vs. 70.795).
