Yusaku Miyazato, who is playing on a Special Foreign Exemption granted by the Commissioners office, aced both the par-3 7th hole (4-iron) and the par-312th hole (7-iron) during the second round. His 4-iron shot traveled 231 yards while his 7-iron traveled 173 yards to record just the second holes in one recorded at both holes in the history of the Reno-Tahoe Open. This is the first time in the modern-era of the PGA TOUR that two holes in one have been recorded in the same round. The golf balls will be shipped to St. Augustine, Florida where they will be made part of the World Golf Hall of Fame. •Bob Tway and Glen Day have recorded two aces during the same tournament but not in the same round. Tway recorded two aces at the 1994 the Memorial Tournament (Rd. 1/No. 8 and Rd. 3/No. 12). Day equaled the feat at the 1994 Canon Greater Hartford Open (Rd. 2/No. 11 and Rd. 3/No. 16). •Making Miyazato's feat even more impressive is the fact the seventh hole is playing as the second-hardest hole at Montreux. The stroke average on the seventh is 3.258 for the first two rounds. The only hole playing harder was the par-four 14th hole, which played to a stroke average of 4.280. Estes' opening 129 breaks the previous 131 record held by 2005 champion Vaughn Taylor. This is fifth time Estes has lead a PGA TOUR event after 36 holes. He went on to win twice at the 1994 Texas Open and the 2001 Fedex St. Jude Classic. •Thirty-six hole leaders have gone on to win the event twice, Vaughn Taylor in 2005 and John Cook (3rd) in 2001. •Will MacKenzie's 5-under 67 during the second round gave him a 130 total for the first two rounds, also besting Vaughn Taylor's opening 36-hole record of 131. Mackenzie's 67 took just 25 putts to complete and in the process hit 14 of 14 fairways. He's missed just two of twenty-eight fairways through the first two rounds. •MacKenzie has made four eagles through 54 holes at the Reno-Tahoe Open. The PGA TOUR record for most eagles during a 72-hole event is shared by Dave Eichelberger and Davis Love III with 5. Love (1994) and Eichelberger (1980) both achieved the feat at the Sony Open in Hawaii. •Seventy-nine players made the cut on Friday at 1-under 143. That's the second-lowest cut score in the eight-year history of the event. The cut at the 2001 event came at 2-under 142. •Two players extended perfect Reno-Tahoe Open made cut streaks without a miss to eight -- Duffy Waldorf and Brian Gay. Gay followed up an opening round 72 with a 66 to jump up 48 spots to a T18. Waldorf currently sits at T36, after a bogey-free 68 Friday. His best finish at the Reno-Tahoe Open was a T5 finish in 2001. •Steven Bowditch made his first cut of the 2006 PGA TOUR season. Bowditch's 2006 season has been interesting, including eight missed cuts, four disqualifications and two withdrawls in 14 events. •Australian Jason Day continues to make good use of his fifth Sponsor Exemption of the year with a second-straight 68 during Friday's round. He's currently in a tie for 12th in great position to earn some more money towards his quest for the card. •There were 12 bogey-free rounds today which included tournament leader Bob Estes. The others: •Kevin Sutherland, Mark Brooks, Spike McRoy, Duffy Waldorf, Jose Coceres, Nicholas Thompson, Jerry Smith, Jeev M. Singh, David Branshaw, Hunter Mahan and Cameron Beckman. •Matt Hansen scored an unconventional eagle on the par-four fifth hole by holing out from 130 yards to record a two on the par four. •The course played over a stroke easier during the second round vs. the first. The first round scoring average was 71.818 while the field improved to 70.705 during Friday's round. |
