The victory by Tiger Woods last week at the PGA Championship was his third consecutive win on TOUR. He bids for his fourth in a row this week at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, an event he’s won four times already. The last player to win as many as four in a row? Tiger Woods when he won six in a row in 1999-2000. • More on Tiger: He’s collected the three consecutive wins in different fashion. He led the field in Driving Accuracy at the British Open and was tops in Driving Distance at the Buick Open. He won the PGA Championship by leading the field in Greens in Regulation. • One more on Tiger: He’s now won five times this year giving him seven seasons with five wins or more. Only Sam Snead, with eight, has more. • Looking for a Comeback Player of the Year? How about Steve Stricker. The three-time PGA TOUR winner has four Top-10 finishes this year after having only three over the previous four years. He’s currently 45th on the money list after finishing 88th, 188th, 151st and 162nd over the past four seasons. • Joey Sindelar has played the PGA TOUR since 1984, but he did something last week that he’d never done before -- he made a double eagle. The albatross came on the fifth hole during the third round of the PGA Championship. He had played 2,152 rounds in his career prior to making his first double eagle. |
