Phil Mickelson
There's only one thing that will stop people from beating up on this guy in the continued fallout from his U.S. Open collapse: winning a tournament or two, such as The INTERNATIONAL and next week's PGA Championship. First things first: He's won twice at Castle Pines GC and had five other top 10s. Don't forget, he won his U.S. Amateur title in 1990 up the road at Cherry Hills CC.

Ernie Els
The easy pick is Phil Mickelson. Els, on the other hand, has a great record here but you don't think of him as a Stableford guy, the way we do Phil. Just what the Big Easy needs rolling into the PGA.

Phil Mickelson
I admit it. I went with the obvious here. He's a two-time INTERNATIONAL champion, though, with a psyche built for the go-for-broke nature of the Modified Stableford scoring system. With his PGA Championship title defense a week away, Mickelson will want to be in top form, too.

Phil Mickelson
The aggressive nature of this event fits in well with Lefty's mentality. It doesn't hurt that he leads the PGA TOUR in birdie conversion percentage and is among the leaders -- again -- in birdie average. He has all the tools to score, which he proved in 1997 when he set the tournament record with 48 points (since equaled by Ernie Els in 2000).

Phil Mickelson
Mickelson is a two time winner at The INTERNATIONAL and he has finished in the top 10 seven times in 13 starts. Heading into the event Mickelson ranks third in par-5 birdie percentage; is tied for fourth in par-4 birdie percentage, and ranks 18th in par-3 birdie percentage. He is also 12th on TOUR in holes played per eagle recorded, second in par breaker percentage, and is 27th in bounce back percentage.

Sergio Garcia
Hey, it's called The INTERNATIONAL, right? So let's go global with the pick and take Sergio Garcia. The scoring rewards risk-takers and aggressive play. Hmmm ... sounds a little like Garcia. While we may question his fashion judgment sometimes, there's no doubt he has what it takes to win this week.
