MILWAUKEE, WI--Corey Pavin will be attempting to become the third wire-to-wire winner in the history of the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, joining Ed Snead who did so in 1974 at Tuckaway Country Club and Ben Crane in 2005 at Brown Deer Park Golf Course. On the PGA TOUR this season, there have been two wire-to-wire winners – Phil Mickelson (BellSouth Classic) and Stuart Appleby (Shell Houston Open). •Due to potentially severe early-morning weather, tee times will run from 10:03 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in threesomes off Nos. 1 and 10 tees. •A victory at the U.S. Bank Championship would put Jerry Kelly (currently No. 22 with 473.750 points) into No. 6 in the United States Ryder Cup standings behind David Toms at 848.750 points. A PGA TOUR victory in 2006 is worth 375 points. Kelly played for the United States in The Presidents Cup in 2003 in South Africa, where he compiled a 2-2-0 record. •Ben Crane’s tournament record 54-hole total of 191 still stands as Corey Pavin 17-under-par 193 total fell two short. The 193 did tie Pavin’s personal best, match a 193 at the 1988 Texas Open. •Corey Pavin has held eight previous 54-hole leads/co-leads on the PGA TOUR, with victories at the 1985 Colonial National Invitational and the 1988 Texas Open. His last 54-hole lead or co-lead was at the 1995 PLAYERS Championship, where he finished tied for third. •Past champion Corey Pavin (1986) is looking to become the eighth player with multiple victories in Milwaukee. The others: Dave Stockton (1968 and 1973), Dave Eichelberger (1971 and 1977), Calvin Peete (1979 and 1982), Scott Hoch (1995 and 1997), Loren Roberts (1996 and 2000), Jeff Sluman (1998 and 2002) and Carlos Franco (1999 and 2004). •Hale Irwin won Heritage Classic 21 years apart (1993-1994) without winning the event in between ... Corey Pavin won the Greater Milwaukee Open in 1986 and has a chance to do it this year, making it 20 years. No info as to others or if Pavin is "second" behind Irwin for this record, but I'd assume he'd be near the top of the list. •If Corey Pavin is able to hang on and win his 15th career PGA TOUR event, it would be 10 years, two months and 11 days since his last win at the 1996 Colonial National Invitational. This week marks his 242nd event since his last win at the Colonial. •A win by Corey Pavin on Sunday would give him PGA TOUR victories in three decades, dating back to his first win at the 1984 Houston Coca-Cola Open. •When Corey Pavin won in Milwaukee in 1986, he trailed Dave Barr by one entering the final round, but posted a 67 on Sunday to top Barr by two. Pavin finished with a 272 total, 16-under-par at Tuckaway Country Club. •Corey Pavin lead the tournament in Putts Per Round (24.333) and in Putting Average (1.472). He entered this week tied for 65th in Putts Per Round (29.02) and tied for 175th in Putting Average (1.822). •Jeff Sluman posted his first bogey of the week on No. 2 in the third round, ending his streak at 41 consecutive holes without a miscue dating back to the final round of the British Open. Corey Pavin made his first bogey of the tournament on No. 4 to end his streak at 39. •The winner will almost certainly post four rounds in the 60s – every winner since 1998 has done so. The last winner with a round in the 70s was Scott Hoch in 1997. •These guys are good? Dan Forsman has posted three rounds in the 60s but sits T48 entering the final round.
